Fontana Question
I think pets are fine at Fontana, but you probably have to pay a deposit. Call them and ask about their policy or visit their website. The cabins are simple and austere. Don't worry so much about spiders. Aren't there spiders everywhere?

The dogwoods are just fine. I stayed in one last year and have no complaints. At this time of year, it is neither too hot or too cold and you won't miss having the AC in the cabin. You won't spend a whole heck of a lot of time in your cabin except to sleep and re-supply during the day. Although these cabins are a bit older and more rustic, they are cozy and comfortable.
I can't promise spiderproof, but you really need not worry about it. There is some species of very very harmless spider that can get into anyplace and quickly make a web, and if that happens it is just mother nature's mosquito catcher. If your spider concerns come from reading some threads from last year, I can assure you that the spider discussions exaggerated the situation. I have been to Fontana 4 times and have never had a single problem with the eight legged critters.
You will have to ask Fontana about the dog. . . . .

). We reserved a 2br Dogwood, which I understand is very basic (no AC, no phone, no TV - but only $59/night). Has anyone ever stayed in a Dogwood? Is it Spider proof? Are Border Collies welcomed? Thanks!
As far as the Dogwoods, I'm told they are nice, but simple. Heck -- do you want to watch Lucy re-runs OR DRIVE?????
(There is a Thursday caravan from the DC area -- which I think you'll pass through --- and I KNOW there is a group of cabrios who are traveling en pact with that group)

Man, I had a prehistoric looking spider in my house last summer - like the size of a mouse - I tried to get the dog to kill it, but she just sniffed it and walked away. I think she thought it was a puppy. Debi threw it out side and asked if I needed a diaper change.
What about refridgeration? Or should I just bring a big electric cooler?

The cabin I stayed in had a small but not tiny refrigerator, kitchen sink, and a cook top. I can't remember if there was an oven, but I don't think so. They save some money by turning off the refrigerator, so make sure to turn it on right when you get there if it is not already on.
All in all, the cabin was far from fancy but very adequate and cozy. Expect the cabin to be clean with everything you need and not much else.
Babswife, do I need to re-stock your supply of Golden Eagle Syrup? I'd be happy to bring a few jars with me, but I need more biscuits this year!

Did you even get any last year?
Ok, I'm down to my last jar -- BUT I found it for sale at Ingles in town!!!!
I'm planning on making biscuits in the mornings...you'll need to come over to get some --- I'm not far --- across the street from Kool and next door to my 'rents.

Of course it all depends on traffic getting out of the Gainsville area, plus a group from Philly should be linking up with us off I-66 in Centreville, if they hit traffic on the way, it could delay our departure.
There's a thread in the DC Metro MINIs forum here on NAM where we've been discussing this.
Dogs at the Dragon?
It's so rustic that I'm sure they allow dogs, but I thought I'd ask anyone that might know. I want to bring Annie (old, blind Cocker Spaniel--but LOVES to Motor) but I'm wondering about my bigger dog, Maeve (Shepard Mix). Any hints?

Some young, fully sensed ( well mostly sensed) people have actually gotten barfy sick while being a passenger on the Dragon?
