Hi all

We've just bought (but not yet received) a Black 2017 Countryman Cooper S All 4, with beige/cream leather interior.

Unfortunately (for our needs) it doesn't have the sliding rear seats (would have been useful for times when we need extra boot (trunk) space. That option can't be retro fitted can it?

The car currently has 3 17" oem wheels (the imprint spoke). I'm having the car repaired post cosmetic accident damage. We could buy another 4th wheel to match, but I think the car looks better with larger wheels, so I'm thinking of buying some 18" (or even possibly 19") wheels. The disadvantage with the larger wheels being reduced ride comfort, but I understand the F60 is a more comfortable ride than the older R60 anyway, so perhaps it will be ok.

The car is to be our main family car (a couple of small teenagers in the back), so a comfortable ride is more important that sporty handling. We're in the UK, so have our share of potholes, but it's not too bad.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

PS - it might be nice to add some stripes to the all black car, if anyone has any recommendations on those too

 

Congrats on the purchase. The F60 is a great family ride. Switching away from runflats will help your ride comfort if you want to go as big as 19”. The 40 profile tires will be a hard ride in runflats especially if you don’t have ddc.

I put 18” on my wife’s countryman with runflats and it’s comfortable and handles well. I got a set of Borbets new for a great price. They are 1/2 wider and about 2 kg lighter per wheel (if I recall). Borbet makes a lot of oem and are all over Europe. Of corse, sky is the limit on wheels.

Sliding rear seats is an option on the F60? Weird, I assumed it was standard.

 

You mention "comfort" as a goal two or three times but you mention looks of a wheel larger than 17 in. only once.

I'd go with the comfort thing. Cheaper. No small, relatively short wheelbase car is going to ride as comfortably as a
long wheelbase luxury car. Nothing wrong with having the best ride possible.

 

Thanks - I've checked out your thread and the wheels look great. I'd have different suppliers here in the UK though. It seems a bit of research is needed to make sure you don't end up with cheap wheels that are easily damaged.

Maybe it was standard in the US, but definitely not here in the UK. Very irritating.



Yep, a comfortable ride would be nice. The problem is that we've not got a way of testing the ride to see how comfortable it is or isn't. Reading the reviews, I can't imagine the F60 on 18" non run-flats would be uncomfortable (sure it's no caddy, but you know what I mean). The tire aspect ratio is higher on the F60 wheels than the older R60, and with the improved suspension I expect 18s on the F60 give a more comfortable ride than 17s on the R60.

Another quick question:
Does the All4 ride higher than the standard 2 wheel drive Countryman? The 17" wheels look a little lost.

I think it's going to come down to budget. I could get budget 18" wheels for £600 ($720), but more like £1k for something like Konigs.

Another tyre site says the the recommended sizes for an F60 are 8" for the 18" wheels, and 8.5" for the 19" wheels, but Mini recommend 8" for 19" wheels

I'm finding that most of the quality 19" wheels are at least 8.5" wide, which is wider than recommended for 225mm tyres (some sites say 225 is the minimum for 8.5" wheels, but I've also seen it suggested they're not totally safe, and that the rims can stick out a bit, meaning they're more likely to be curbed).

What size do I need?

 

I've just noticed you said 40 profile tyres - I think it's 45 profile on the F60 19" wheels, whereas 40 was for the R60 model.

you’re right they are 45 profile at 19

 

Design is always very subjective but quality is not. I would go with a reputable brand/manufacturer. Ronal makes lots of oem, as does Borbet and they don’t I best much in branding so they are more affordable than say BBS. I would stay within oem specs. You could go 1/2” wider just check fitment (wlltheyfit.com) is a good resource, just make sure to have your ET, and if you can buy from somewhere that will allow you to test fit them (or return them)

 

I understand Ronal have been making good OEM wheels forever, but didn't know about Borbet, and they have a good selection, thanks. Do you know anything about Mak? I think they make OEM wheels too.

I'm sure 8.5" wide wheels would fit both the car and tyres, but it seems they're not the ideal width for a 225mm tyre, and I don't want to go for wider tyres.
I'm not sure if that's a common thing here?
