CarPlay in Europe on a US spec S All 4

Hey guys I have CarPlay in my mini. However I live in Germany and my brand new mini I bought here is US spec. I have tried everything I can think of. BimmerCode app. The dealer told me that CarPlay will work when it gets to the states. What can I do?

You need a connection to MINI Connected to get it working which is why your dealer told you it needs to be in the States to activate. I guess you could try bring up an AT&T MicroCELL, that may work since that's who BMW uses but I don't think they ever released an LTE version. The only other way around it is to pay for an FSC code to unlock it. I'm just going to wait, already have been doing it with my X3 and that was a standalone option I had to pay for, what a waste of $300. At least on the Countryman it was included in the Navigation Package.

Yeah I called Minnie technical the other day and that’s exactly what they told me also Do you think if I get an AT&T microcell over here that it would just need to hook up one time and then it would be good or do you think the microcell would have to be active all the time. I mean if I got one over here do you think it just needs to hook up this single time and then it activates CarPlay

I don't think it deactivates once it's been activated, so as long as it connects and shows up, it should be good. On the 2018 BMWs it shows an end date but it's set like 20 years out or something. Starting with the 2019 BMWs they made it truly subscription based and you have to pay yearly. Really Euler/Bavarian/Stuttgart/etc. should be doing this for the buyers or at least acquiring the FSC codes to unlock CarPlay. I'd much rather use Waze or Google maps for navigation, especially when the 2018 Mini models had CarPlay working out of the box.

Another thing I noticed is I couldn't get speed limit info working if the European maps were not installed. So even though it uses the camera for roadsigns, it must default to the base speeds that come with the maps.

I wonder if there is a way for me to get the att signal broadcast here via cell booster or something?

I think the only way to get an actual at&t signal is to use their microcell which has been discontinued. WiFi calling has supplanted them at this point and it's easier than having people bring up their own "towers". The other issue is they usually require a GPS signal as well to keep them from working from where they're not legally allowed to broadcast. So you'd have to work around that as well.

It's probably easier and cheaper just to go through a third party like: https://bimmer-unlock.com/collection...-active-by-usb

I've heard for some G chassis with late 2018 software not being able to use them anymore but nothing for the F chassis yet. People have done it on the F60 already though: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...y-finally.html
