I have a may 2017 UK Spec’d Countryman S All4 with the tech pack (touch nav, EBT, Reverse camera, HUD & HK) so I missed out on Carplay by a few months.
Finally found out how to have it installed/coded.
Really impressed with the way it works seamlessly with the car and without having to plug my iPhone in.

I found a few people who can supply the files - many who also supply map updates too. If you search for "Bimmer carplay" that's who I used.
Some companies can just supply the FSC codes, but you'll need to code the changes. This is a cheaper option if you can do detailed coding.
You need to have the NBTEVO head unit - touchscreen system. Looks like the wiring loom already had the wifi antenna included.
Supply them with you VIN and they email you back 2 files & instructions.
The first file is the FSC codes (lifetime codes), while the second is the coding changes.
Put each file onto a USB. Start the car. Insert the first USB. Wait 1 minute. Remove USB. Turn off the car and leave for 30 minutes (for the head unit to cycle down). Restart the car and the head unit will start up and then reboot to load the FSC codes. Turn the car off.
Then repeat with the second file.
After that you'll need to delete and reconnect your phone. And the CarPlay icon with appear on the screen.
1. Copy provided UPD BIN file onto an available blank USB flash memory stick with FAT32 file
system. Recommended flash drive capacity is 2 or 4 or 8 GB.
2. Turn ignition on or start engine of your car and insert the USB flash drive into the USB port in
glove box/center console.
3. Wait at least 30 seconds and then remove the USB flash drive.
4. Reboot iDrive system via press and hold the rotary volume button until 15-20seconds.
Alternatively lock the car for 10 minutes
5. Unit will start to boot, show “BMW ConnectedDrive” on the screen and automatically reboot.
Looks like the 2 files process is already updated to a 1 step upload!
Bimmercarplay replied that it was a new method and it works!
However, I had to reboot my iPhone and reconnect it. It was not working as per instructions but the step about rebooting iDrive didn’t work either... I just locked my car and waited 20 minutes, and it connected successfully!

Brilliant. It will be interesting to see how CarPlay progresses in the future.
Do you have a touch screen ? or it works on any NBT EVO on Mini ?
I didn't think any Mini had NBT EVO without touchscreen. Check your map version. If it says NEXT then you are running NBT. If it says EVO then you've got NBT EVO.
This is really great news but sending a file without any other work and ask $250 is quite a lot to be honest. I hope that price drops a bit. Unlimited fsc for navi is often about $50. Similar process.
I wonder what the file exactly does...could it maybe be universal?
I found a line with BimmerCode about carplay. I activated it but unfortunately no effect. Would have been great.

I think the FSC codes are expensive and when you consider BMW are charging £80 a year in the UK for CarPlay its not too bad.
My issue is that all the hardware was already there so it could have been available at launch. I guess they wanted to advertise new 5 series as the first car with wifi CarPlay.

That is true. Very disturbing why they don’t activate it when it is in the car available. I say we complain or start a petition but i don’t think enough people will join...
