R60 B48 for CM?
B48 for CM?
Does anyone know if/when MINI would use B48 2.0L engine for this model?
I googled for a whiel but couldn't find any solid info, only speculation like maybe 2016, 2017...

OP is talking about the Countryman. You can't tell on the mobile app, but this is in the Countryman section.
Presumably someone at MINI knows, but outside of that, all you're going to get is speculation (unless you know a really great fortune teller). My guess is 2018 based on the usual BMW/MINI 7-year model cycle.

The latest info I found from online is that BMW will phase out the current 1.6L engines from all current MINI models that are still using this by the end of 2016. If that's true, we would be seeing 2.0L turbo equipped CM by then.
I just got a 2014 Hardtop S F56 with B48 2.0L turbo and LET TELL YOU!
This motor is SWEET!
> Awesome low end torque, starting just off the idle rpm all the way to the redline!
> Aewsome fuel economy, averaging 36.7 MPG for last 2000 miles of daily 60-miles a day commuting in Los Angeles traffic!
> Awesome crisp throttle response, especially in the "sport" mode.
I want to replace my aging 2004 RAV4 AWD manual with a new CM All4 manual when/if MINI uses this this sweet B48 mill. Hopefully soon!
Source? Unless it's from somewhere reputable like Motoringfile, I find that hard to believe. It's tough to retrofit a new engine vs designing around it. There's very little room for growth in engine bays today. It's not impossible, but it's a lot of work for little reward (from a business standpoint).
The entire 2nd generation MINI lineup with 1.6L engines is being terminated and replaced with 3rd gen models. The process already began with the R56 being replaced by the F56. The remaining models (Countryman, Paceman, convertible, roadster, coupe) will all be terminated within the next couple of years. The current Countryman (R60) will never get a B48 engine but the larger next generation Countryman will.

The bmw theyre sharing the platform with is gross. At least it shows some promise that engineering focus will likely favor the countryman, especially with its sales success. I sure hope they get it better this time, the competition in 2017 wont be easy, with more raw data coming in on the cm, and a first year of a new gen model, there's a big hurdle out of the gate for mini for establishing its value proposition. You cant question their marketing brilliance, so they got that working for them.

The current Countryman goes away in 2016. That means 2017 will be a new model. As reported in auto news in January the BMW contract with Magna Steyr Graz for Mini ends with the 2016 model year. They are currently tooling line two of the old NedCar facility in the South Netherlands to build the new Countryman platform. Line 1 at NedCar is already rolling F56's.
Just a note, BMW will still have other platforms at Graz just not Mini.

I have the B48 2.0L im my '14 MCS Hardotop and it's a really sweet motor.
Awesome low-end pulling power that just pulls harder and harder all the way to the redline w/o a dip. And I'm still averageing 37 MPG in my 60-mile daily commute in traffics. This is my first MINI and I'm already planning on buying another one just because of B48.
Apologies in advance, my point wasnt worth three consecutive identical posts.
Thats great to hear, I really enjoyed the twin turbo 525i I had once as a loaner, the smooth ride, auto gear shifts, it was easy to get over the speed limit. It's good to see that engine tech making it's way into the mini. Soon, the days of the award-winning-timing-chain-eating-motor-formally-known-as-prince, will be in the past.
Question, can you check the oil level without visiting the salt flats, using a special dipstick, a prayer, and pushing the vehicle in the opposite direction of the earth's rotational mass?
No seriously, just wondering if there's better vehicle monitoring, and it's easier to check. I guess the jury wouldnt be out yet, as to if it would properly warn you when it's a couple quarts low, or if the techs are over filling them. I wish the 4 door would get here, I'd drop the cms in a heartbeat for a new chassis and engine combo.

I believe you can check it via the on-board computer from behind the steering wheel.
The answer is NO!
It will get a B46 which is said to get slightly:
> LESS emission
> HIGHER hp
> LESS torque
It's basically the same modular turbo 2.0L 4-cyl but just a different tuning.
Already it's been confirmed to be used on the 2015 Hardtop S model.
What that means is that B48 is used for only one year (2014) and one model (Hardtop S).
There is a thread about this B46 engine in the F56 section of this forum.
Regardless, I still want a CM with the 2.0L turbo engine!
