If you are still not sure then start calling MINI dealers and see what other offers you can get. You just have to be willing to travel a bit to pick up the car. With the internet available you can also see what if any inventory dealers have on their lot. With a new model sometimes it is difficult to get dealers to move on a vehicle but typically you will get a lower price on a vehicle in stock.
usaa and costco have the best pricing, but finding a dealer that will honor those is another thing.

I 2nd that for Costco, i got an CMs4, (P,C,T+nav packages), Sun/Moon Roof, Bonnet Sport Stripes, White Turn Signals, Adaptive Xenon lights, plus destination for 34,500.
Whatever you do, just keep shopping until you get the lowest price, i was about to jump on the same car for 35,800 but kept going.

Good deal. I got the Costco deal at $1500.00 over invoice - which I thought was closer to $2000 off on a loaded CMAll4.
I did have to pay a document fee of $495 but tat included registration fees, sticker, and some other cost items.

I did not haggle at all since I thought a dealer would not negotiate on a Mini. After reading everything here, I regret it. My car is at the port waiting for a vessel, and I'm wondering if there's anything I can do to get the dealer to take money off at this point? What does everyone think? There are several dealers within a 20 mi radius in this part of NJ. I also don't feel like I'm getting the best level of attention from my MA since when I send him and email about the status of the car it takes him a week to get back to me.

It's a pretty mean move, but also you got to remember it's your money.
I put a deposit down and I signed a sales contract as well. I probably don't want to walk away at this point as I don't want to be on a Mini dealer blacklist in NJ next time I trade up to another model :-)
If you haven't paid yet, then you have some wiggle. You may be able to get something thrown in or waived as a show of good faith on their part. However, if you felt OK about the price before, nothing has changed, so don't go changing the deal just because you heard somebody got something better somewhere.
As far as $700 under MSRP, getting anything at all on an ordered Countryman is pretty good. Definitely shop around and/or negotiate a little for some freebies, but I think you've got a pretty good deal to start.

Words of wisdom from tippykayak. When selling cars I was taught that a customer is getting a good deal when the customer feels like they are getting a good deal. That pretty much sums it up.
If I had wanted a hardtop, I could have laid on all kinds of deals.
Essentially the whole " I heard somebody else got a better deal" thing is the whole reason I hate buying cars. Through the years I have tried to develop a relationship with a dealer with the idea that they knew if they treated me right, they would have a return customer. This worked very well for me with a couple dealers locally where I have bought fleet cars for my business.
The Mini thing was totally different. I paid sticker. I tried getting a better deal, but they were selling every countryman they could get as fast as they hit the lot. Most of the ones coming on the next truckload were sold as well. I had to take the "this is the price" if I wanted that car. I did it, and have had no regrets since then. Its bad enough my dealer is an hour away. I wasn't interested in trying to beat someone down if I had to go 2-3 hours away.
Make the best deal you can live with. The car is worth it. I'd do it again.
Its the 8 week wait for the car to come in that was the hardest part.

I was quoted $800 below MSRP for a CMS auto with minimal options to be ordered (due to the bench seat). I figured I will shop around to see if this can still be beat by other dealers..... I was hoping for $1k off but since I can hold off ordering until they actual start producing the CMS with the bench seats, I'll probably wait it out.
