Clayton, if I may throw some advice out there on the stripes....

Get a stripe made like the silver ones, the U stripe. Then get a Carbon Fiber scoop to finish it off. I really thought about going this route, but decided I wanted a blue car this time around. I actually think the black U-stripe would look even better than the silver because of the washer sprayers, plus it would really make the CF scoop stand out too.

I love all the stripe options for our cars, but I really think the U-stripe is the best design for the bonnet because it plays up the bulge in the middle and flows really well into the roof.

Interesting...

I was thinking...at the VERY beginning of this process...of wishing I had done the U-stripe in silver with the silver top.

Never thought about it in black! Never seen one in black come to think of it.

Seen any pics around?

Thanks Drew!

Nope no name, just can't get in to naming my cars.

Don't worry Doogs when she let's me drive she doesn't mind fast driving, that's actually the problem she drives like I do.

astrochex, congrats on picking up your MINI!!! Now we need the pics!!!!

Red Scooter, naturally I like the Viper/sport stripe look. I've thought about getting the full Viper, but for now I'm happy. Black Viper stripes on red would look good. Drew is on target with the U stripe idea - if they offered it in white (and not the sport stripes), I would have gotten it. It's definitely a unique look. A black U stripe would be really cool, and definitely different! And I'm not into the side stripe thing, as to me it looks like a bit of over, so I can't really speak to that.

I LOVE Today!!

Wow, did I get a Friday bonus! I HAVE A DELIVERY DATE!!!!

I stopped in the dealership to drop off the credit app and, even though it was my MA's day off (didn't know that), he was there catching up on stuff.

We checked the BMW/MINI "pipeline system" and Jake was released from the VPC yesterday and to a truck today! ETA at the dealership is 8/20. They need a couple of days but don't have the processing staff, etc. on Sundays.

So, I told Greg we're leaving early Thursday for MTTS and the Payson trip. He asked, even though it's his day off, if I could be available Wednesday. You all know I said "Anytime, any place...you name it!"

So, we're on for 8 AM Wednesday 8/23. Yes, yes, yes!!!!

I was so bummed when the 8/16 delivery didn't happen and thought I wouldn't have Jake for the trip. Alas, he must have MINI angel 'cause he is on his way!

Since I can drive the car I'm selling to pick him up, I wasn't sure how I'd get there. Get this, Greg said he'd pick me up! That's pretty amazing service wouldn't you say?

I am so STOKED. Finally...a delivery date!!

Black U or Scoop stripe...

...aka the Checkmate stripe.

Well I am surprised to have found these. Really like the boot.

The bonnet? Not so sure. Looks NICE in silver. In black...ummm..

Congrats, Red! That's awesome that you'll make it to the MTTS in mini style! Steel yourself however - the last couple days of waiting are the worst! But we'll still be here for you, buddy!

I've got good news of my own- My mini rolled off the delivery truck at 3 PM today, and my MA pulled some strings with the service department to get it prepp'd before they leave tonite, so barring some disaster I'll be able to pick it up tomorrow morning!

And my wife is ditching the kids with grammy and flying in tomorrow morning so we can have a 2-day motoring date!!! I've been looking forward to that as much as the car.

I stopped by the dealership just now, but didn't see my mini (hopefully it was in the shop area getting prepp'd), but I did see the truck it came on. So now I'm camped out at a Holiday Inn a few blocks away from the dealership. Anyone got recommendations on how to distract myself in SLC tonite?

Crusoe - I did see 3 PW mini's in the holding pen (no camera with me, sorry), so yours might be here too - I didn't take notice of their roof colors, however. What kind of wheels are you getting - I think two had s-lites and one had something different.

I agree- the black w/ white pinstripe u-stripe looks cool on the boot, but it doesn't look as good on the bonnet with the black scoop as I had thought it would.

Seconded. I think the issue (at least in the picture) is that there's not anything for the black to tie into. Apart from the roof, the silver stripe ties into the wheel, mirrors, headlights, and to an extent all the chrome bits. With an aero kit, I think it would look the business. Or, maybe seen as a whole car, with the black roof, it'd work. I think it would look mean and very cool on a PW/B.

I'm sticking with the shelby stripes, though. Think they would look FANTASTIC on Jake.

I like the black U-stripe! Not so much the silver pinstriping, but the black I think you could even do a thin black line or maybe have a border on the edges of the U-stripe...

Hey y'all...

Thanks for the great input on the stripes. Fortunately I'll be able to see HUNDREDS of options at MTTS!!!

I think once I see Jake, motor a bit and see some other MINIs, I'll know what fits his personality. I'm still foggy about actually taking delivery in FOUR days. Wah-hooo!

tethernaut - That is SO awesome that things are working out with your bus. trip, Granny, the kids and a TWO-DAY MOTORING DATE with your wife! That just can't get much better, IMHO.

astrochex,

What a bee-you-tee-ful MINI. Very classy color combo plus you now have a limited edition! Good job!

Btw, is that a custom Checkmate steering wheel?

Very nice! In a way I'm sad to hear MINI's decision to kill the silver roof. It's just so cool. But then it makes ours all the rarer. I'm torn!

Thanks everyone for the compliments!

I love it more each time I look at it.

Red, yes, that steering wheel is part of the Checkmate package.

Mine is an all PW MC with 15" delta spokes. I'd be surprised if mine was there as my MA said it was still in Cali on Tuesday... but it's possible. I'm still planning on flying in on the 25th either way. I have just enough frequent flyer miles to get me there.

Really nice pictures Gromit. I picked up Mrs. Peel (finally) this morning. All I can say is "WOW". What a great car. They haven't put on the bonnet stripes yet, because they said they were coming in from the factory with air bubbles in them. So I will have to go back for them to apply them. I know one thing, my husband I have got to remember to use sunblock. Man did we get it good today. Boy do I love this car. Now I know what everyone is talking about.

Jake Has Arrived!!!

Hi everyone!

Jake was supposed to arrive tomorrow but I just had a feeling he was here. So we drove to the dealership and sharked the back lot and BING! There he was!

I saw him out of the corner of my eye and when I stopped, I just knew it was him. Wow...Chili Red is REALLY RED!

So, here are the Jake "sneak peek" pics. I love the first one 'cause it says he's MINE! And yes, my last name is Smith.

Cannot wait until Wednesday morning!

Btw, after seeing his bonnet stripes and how SWEET he looks, I think I'm going to leave 'em. Just like he's supposed to be. Probably will add the black/white pin boots as I originally planned.

I have so much adrenaline I can't really think anyway!

I see I'm not the only one to take "baby pictures" at the "nursery" before the official presentation to the "proud parent". LOL

You got it! I kind of wondered about that but I just couldn't resist. It was tons of fun!

I remembered seeing "spy" pics of another MINI...now I know it was Buddha!

Woohoo... popping in from Week 29, but wanted to share in the excitement for another fellow MINI motoring in Phoenix. Jake looks great! I wonder if you can arrange some babysitting with the dealer until you take delivery.
