Production Week 21 Support Group

I found out from owner's lounge today, my mini is moving from on order
to scheduled for production. But when I click "review for detail", it is
still blank. Anyone knows why?

June 1 Build

I believe I'm also in this group . . . . MC/PW with a 6/1 production date
according to "voice" of Mini and my sales guy (Joel at Peabody, MA).

I've been told the Mini may arrive a couple of weeks later?

Waiting . . .

maybe . . . .

I was first told I was in production week 23, but the "voice" of MINI now says a completion date of June 2. Not sure where that puts me . . . . maybe with you guys!

Well, I am in the Intermountain West, so it will likely take a long time to get here. I'm trying not to get too excited, but . . . .I think about it a hundred times a day

I placed my order in late Jan. this year, so 6 months wait for me is reasonable since I dont have to pay markup for it. Most dealers around where I live charge around $2000 markup.

Now the wait is almost over, I think it is time to think about what warranty is worth buying!!

1) extended warranty
2) extended maintainence
3) tire warranty

Which one will you buy and for how much?

Yes, there doesn't seem to be too many of us. And no one is posting as a Week 22, but there are people in Week 23. Strange, eh? Has anyone received anymore info than "in production, completion date blah blah blah?" If several us are supposed to be finished on June 1st, shouldn't we start hearing that they're in the body shop or something?

Hello from Week 23

They are saying my car will be done by the 3rd which the way I measure these things is not week 23 but the rep at ASKMINI insists that I'm week 23. *shrug*

I've been debating these pretty heavily myself. Here's my thoughts on it so far:

1) Extended warranty - It's from GE, third party as usual with these things. Don't know what price you're being quotes but I do know this is where a lot of dealers get a lot of extra folding cash. I've heard that if you go direct to some of the companies that they offer similar or even exact matches to this warranty for about half the price. I believe NAM even hosts a forum for Warranty Direct here.

2) Extended maintenance. This one is a crap shoot and another dealer folding cash deal. This product is actually offered by MINI NA. The price varies by dealer. I've seen prices on this from $420 to my high price of $799 at my dealership. All this is buying you is a year of basic maintenance. If you don't drive your car much you might only get a couple of oil changes (some dealers charge up to $300 for one of these). If you drive a lot this might get you one extra service check and maybe a clutch. Any MINI dealer can sell you this and it doesn't have to be bought until your free maintenance warranty is used up is my understanding (check with your dealer or other dealers on this).

3) Tire Warranty. Rough one. My dealership is offering coverage for between $435 to $779 with various amounts of years covered. I'm thinking for that price that if I screw up a RIM I'm going to get a new set with some 2nd generation run flats on them. It will cost more than the coverage though. If you insist on your stock rims because you like them (I do like the look of my 5 spokes) or whatever and you just don't want to deal with the hassle, this could be a decent bargain. Ask yourself though, how many flats/rim repairs do you think you're going to have in X number of years vs. how much the coverage costs? If you insist on dealer rims/tires then the base amount will pay for itself in one rim/tire problem. If not, you're over paying if you only think you're going to have one. Your call.

My take on all "extended" warranty is a resounding No! No! No! As someone pointed out elsewhere these are service contracts (not warranty extensions) and almost never offer a good value.

Now watch me get swallowed up by a Boston pot hole!!

Go Sox!!

status changes?

Hey, is anyone else in the body shop, paint shop, etc? Penelope is supposed to be completed June 1, but the OL and the automated voice are still just saying "in production" with estimated completion date of June 2. How soon will it change?

update

MC/PW ordered 5/7/06 . . .Peabody, MA (Joel)

I just called the "voice" and in addition to a completion date of June 1
(I've been getting this for over a week) the message included "in the paint shop."

I just called teh "voice", it only tells my completion date is June 1, but
without " in the paint shop"
Does every one with the same completion date has message other
than completion date?

usa- It will take the ship about 23 days to travel across the oceans. Then once it gets to VDC it will take a day or two to get through there. And THEN onto a truck. And then to your dealer to Prep. UGH!! I think mine is US soil now, but its frustrating at this point, cause it seems like the tracking breaks down at this point!

You can also check out this link, which shows what is going through the Panama Canal and the dates they are expected. The list updates frequently. You should get the name of your ship from your MA when it gets onto the boat.
