Hi. I bought my 2009 Cooper S just over a year ago. I was never a “car person” but I love my Mini. I don’t know much about cars so I may be asking some questions that will be very basic to more knowledgeable members. I will try to get pics posted soon. Thanks for being here.

Welcome to NAM, pictures are always good.

You have the N14 engine, are you aware of whether the chain guide was changed? And remember, rather have you ask a question then no question at all.

Welcome to NAM! The timing chain guides wear out sooner than many people expect...wear depends on many factors, including oil change intervals. Take a look at the FAQ's in the 2nd Gen forum. Your car has an N14 engine, which requires a little more care than 1st Gen and later 2nd Gen (N18) engines.

Chain guide

I think my chain guide has been changed out. I haven’t had any problems with it. And no death rattle sounds.

Welcome, yep call up your local MINI dealer and have them run the vin, they might have been done with the technical service bulletin a couple years back.

We have TONS of customers that buy a MINI and realize that they have never loved a car before and never been inclined to upgrade or add accessories to. Welcome to the MINI owners club!
