Greetings all,

I just ordered my MY JCW Coupe last week and it is currently in production with an expected birthday of April 21st. This will be my first MINI and I'm very excited to pick her up in June when I get back from my tour in Iraq.

I have spent the last few weeks reading posts and learning as much as I can about MINIs and the MINI experience and I see there is a lot of good information here from the MINI community.

When I get back to the States I'll be in the Austin area (based in Ft. Hood, TX), I hope I see fellow Motorers soon!

WELCOME and Congratulations on the new JCW! You're gonna love it. We got our first MINI last fall (MCS Hardtop) and it is a blast. Our neighbor liked it so well he order a JCW for himself and took delivery just before Christmas.

Ed, I know how you feel about your Mini. I'm waiting on mine too (only a couple of more weeks to wait for me though).

Congratulations on your JCW Mini!!! Stay safe. My nephew just got back from Afghanistan, and he previously had an extended tour in Iraq. We are also getting close to making a decision about getting a Justacooper. There are several Mini being driven around in Austin, but the closest dealer at this time is in San Antonio. Take care.

 

We named her Lilly! Not a very 'attack helicopter pilot death from above, etc.' type of name, but it just came to me. My girlfriend has done all the work back home with the dealer and she liked the name as well so it stuck

 

Thanks, everyone, for the well wishes. We ordered ours from the San Antonio dealer - so far, so good - I heard that Austin might get a dealer at the end of Summer? I hope so!

I'll have a 55 mile commute each way everyday which I'm looking forward to, I haven't driven in so long, I have some making up to do

 

Well then.... Frodo welcomes Lilly (even though Lilly will be able to kick his butt on the road/track).

 

We went by the BMW of Austin last week to look at three clubmans they had (new from their Arizona dealership but being sold as used). The dealership had major hail damage to all (think they said 6000? ) vehicles. They have only time for dealing with this hail damage disaster right now. We were told that they may open the Mini section in Sept. I hope so but wonder that with the economy and the hail damage, what will really be happening. Do you mind if I ask if the Mini of San Antonio went down any from of MRSP when you ordered. It may help us when it's our time. Altho we will buy off the lot if one that is close to what is want is available. Once again, take care and congrats on Lilly.

I was in Austin this past weekend, and you will be shocked by the number of MINIs around Austin. But than again, Austin is a MINI kinda town.

I'm ready to get there! I see a connection - Austin Mini - Austin Texas... hmmm....

 

I hope that gets sorted out in Austin, it would be nice to have a dealer there... The scoop on my deal is as follows:

My girlfriend worked the deal via e-mail and over the phone with the MINI dealer in San Antonio while I IM'd her over Yahoo! from Iraq - we can get a military discount through a dealer in Bahrain, but I wanted to spend my money locally, in the States. Because we can get a military discount, the dealer offered $2246 off MSRP which is pretty close to what I can get through Military Sales. The one big difference is the dealer in SA offered to do a custom leather interior - I really wanted chocolate seats but since they aren't offered on the JCW Coupe, they are having them installed for about $1500 (I just ordered the leatherette seats)... the company that makes the leather is called katzkin and on the website you can see the different colors and configurations available

I know chocolate seats in a Mellow Yellow car might look weird, but I want something unique. Hopefully we will all know in early June

So the big pluses for me were the custom seats and getting to spend my money in the States - my girlfriend did all the work and said that the sales manager in SA was very helpful. Another thing to note is that they put the order in on the 6th, and I had a VIN in the Owner's Lounge on the 10th, the car is in production now - so that seems to have gone pretty fast.
