it really is easier knowing that i am not the only one.
as far as the sunny ca thing, as the days get shorter there is just not as much time to enjoy the sunniness.
4-6 (the original optimistic quote) weeks has quickly turned to 8-10 weeks

How long before you received a production number?

I didn't know to ask for the production number until a couple of weeks went by. They must know, based on the production number, about which week the vehicle will start production. Even though it is getting here later than I expected, they were pretty close in their estimate. Being off by 4 weeks seems odd...

You and I (and our fellow week 29'ers) are among the last of the '08 Cabrio's to be built! Not sure which week was the last week, though. If I had waited another month to order, I may have had to wait until the '09 model came out!

I too have been somewhat dismayed at the response or lack thereof from my MA. All to often she hasn't answered my emails until I call and then she says...geez I thought I hit send. Now I finish my email with don't forget to hit send. Nw I have been dealing with her since 6/11, so maybe she has received five emails from me.....hardly a bother.

From my view, being a MA is really the better of car sales jobs. No need to pressure any one...the car sells itself. Very little inventory so most vehicles have to be ordered. Four MAs at my dealership so what do they do all day? Even if they process 100 cars a month, there is still time to monitor orders and stay proactive with their clients. My Dealer will not be getting a 5 star customer satisfaction survey from me. If I were a manger of MAs, I would ensure my MAs were being inter-active with their clients and keeping them informed the moment the dealership got wind of a change in status, and I gather they (MA) know more than we do.

Here's an idea, if no else already came up with it. When we all get our minis, why don't we each place a small 29 somewhere on the car? Maybe lower right back glass or something. Then on the off chance that we may see each other, (Butthead Voice)"it'll be like, cool or something."

I like that idea... instead of adding the typical "Actual Size" sticker... we can get some "Week 29" stickers. I bet one of the vendors on here can make them for us for a good price.

the funny thing is, that i got my production number the day i ordered. june 11
i was "given" one of the dealer spots. it was scheduled for production week 27, but booked for turandot june 3 so i would have been sitting on the dock swinging my feet and whistling for several weeks.
i just think they are overly optimistic--well, they want us to be anyway.

OL was finally up dated to show my Mini is at the VDC (its been there since Sunday July 27) I hoping since OL is lagging by a few days that my Mini is actually on its way to the Dealer. I think I will give them a call today to see if they have any info.

So far one Mini from my ship (the Figaro) is at the Dealer.

JanetMC, I just don't understand their scheduling after production to delivery. It seems to be full of holes where there are examples like yours that just don't seem to move along with rest of the Minis produced the same week.

I have learned through the process that regardless of Production Date, the dealer's allotment controls when a MINI gets on a ship. Despite a ship leaving within days of my production date, my MINI was slated for an August delivery at the dealer, so I sat for almost two weeks at the port.

Janet...I would recommend getting back on the horn with your dealer and ask specifically......"When you ordered my MINI, was it against an August or September dealer allotment". If it was August, then you should demand an August delivery and threaten to go over their heads to MINIUSA. I suspect since you ordered in June, you are an August delivery and not September.

I like the 29 identifier.

That sounds cool. We could even probably have a motoring badge custom made. I'm pretty sure all you need is 15-20 minimum for an order.

I need to start looking for financing. I think I am going to apply with Pentagon Federal Credit Union to try and take advantage of their 4.5% interest rate.
I just call my insurance agent on day of delivery with the VIN.
Going to start re-arranging the garage. My truck can't fit inside, so only the Tribeca has been garaged. Now we get to keep two cars in a two car garage. I have to make sure tools and machinery (weed-wacker,hedger, & mantis) are properly secured to the walls with heavy duty hangers.
Already ordered my detailing supplies from Detailer Paradise.
Champagne in stock in the wine cellar.
What else?

My CPA advised its better to finance than to pay cash

Got insurance done

I checked online to see the insurance rate change when I add the MINI. Now I just need to add the VIN before I go to pick it up, and I can print out my new insurance card.

Since I'm buying in Mass and live in Maine, I'll also have to get a transit plate, but I think I can also do that on the day I pick it up.

Paying cash, so I don't need to stress about financing.

Already have a checklist for items I plan on getting when the MINI comes in, but I want to give it a chance the way it is, so I won't order anything until I've had it for a week or two:
1.) Stubby antenna from Alta
2.) Blackout grille and surrounds from Minspeed
3.) Black 16" OZ Ultraleggera wheels from TireRack
4.) Carbon Fiber side scuttles from Minspeed
5.) Rear dual badge holder

Good idea on the champagne by the way. I'll have to put a nice bottle of Veuve in the wine fridge.

Cheers!

I finally got the phone call from the dealership guy who arranges the deliveries and we made an appointment for Monday 0930. A couple minutes later I got the e-mail with the Bill of Sale from BMW Munich which gave me the go-ahead to go to vehicle registration on base here to get my plates and registration... I went with the 2-year registration option for $60 since I'll be here until Summer 2010.
Man, this is going to be a long weekend!

I have everything taken care of... it's paid off, i've got insurance and I got it registered... I even have the plates sitting next to me on my desk.

What I have to do now:

Get some quotes for the window tint
Get some detailing supplies

I have to wait till I actually get the window sticker in order to do the financing. Doing it through the Fire Fighters credit union. Good rates.

My MA doesn't seem to know any more than the owner's lounge. I am starting to think that is where he is getting his information. I went the other day to see what the status of my mini was and one guy looked it up for me and he told me that it should be crossing the pond. Then I called my MA 2 days ago and he doesn't think it left Southhampton. I am starting to regret purchasing the car from that dealership. All you guys that have MAs that know what they are doing, consider yourselves lucky.
I am hoping he is wrong. I wouldn't make sense if it was ready early and it never made it aboard the Fadora.
OH well. Good luck to everyone. Coming soon to a driveway near you.

I was fortunate enough to get a signed order form from the dealership with auto cost, tax, title and processing fee.

Seems we 29ers have had our fair share of "not too involved MAs"

My Credit Union told me to wait until the car comes in to finish the financing. Their rates are fantastic.
The name will come later....After my wife and I get to know her better.

Spoke to my Charleston MA today and definitely confirmed I am on Southern Highway due here on Thursday August 7th. For those that think I may have an advantage being in the city the port is....well its not true. Many of you on Southern Highway being delivered here may easily be driving before me. MA explained its the luck of the trucking schedule. This is how it was explained to me:
  • August 7 ship arrives and vehicles are off loaded,
  • Mini's are taken by train to Greer SC to the VDC about 4 hrs NW of Charleston (near Greenville SC). They are inspected for damage and grouped by area of the country where they are to be delivered.
  • Depending on how trucks are scheduled my vehicle may be headed directly back here to Charleston or may take a ride with other mini's as far as Florida before coming back to Charleston.
He said the dealer delivery can be as little as four days to as long as two weeks from date the ship lands. Doing the math, us southern folk will be driving some time between August 11 and 21st.

SS/SS, premium, sport seats, gotham grey, MFW/bluetooth
