The problem with living on the Left Coasr is that my Heux IC doesn't arrive until tomorrow. So we went on a drive with the MINI club. Top down weather.

So how long did it take you? I was gonna have Detroit Tuned do it but now I'm gonna probably do it myself. I just have low patience lol.

It took me about 1.5 hours but only because of those nasty clips! Oh yea and figuring out the brake duct. But I had my younger brother dealing with the clips while I disassembled the other side. If I would have been by myself prob like 2.5 with just a jack. I found out how much mini tried to save... The freaking side marker fasteners were like cheap metal fasteners and the studs you screw onto we're plastic. Anyways ill stop my ranting. If you have low patients those clips will get to you... If you already bought the extra clips it shouldn't be a problem just break the ones that give you issues.

Got mine in piece of cake. The only thing that took so long was changing out my hot side boost pipe. But I finished mine in about 1.5 hours

Brake duct work?

I won't get my IC until May or something like that, but can someone give me some details about the brake duct stuff you had to mess with when installing this? Anyone have some pics or is willing to take some when you do your install? I have a 2011 S so I assume I fall in the "face-lift" category others have mentioned.

Thanks!

Some people have said in another thread that you can pop off the ducts, with care, without taking off the bumper. I think I saw it in a thread regarding people wanting to paint theirs a different color. Here are some pics though that came from that thread that I saved while reading it. Hope it helps.

Oh I see, its just that bit on the front. I guess that is attached to something else. I'll crawl under the car today and have a look. Thanks!

Careful not to break the tabs, some type of plastic trim tool might help too.

I feel lazy to read through this again, but if I break the tabs, where can I get them?

These are the ones I got from the dealer (not stealer in this case):
07-13-2-757-821 CLIP $.84 ea. <--- do NOT get these
51-47-1-911-992 FIXING PLUG. $.69 ea.
07-13-0-702-966 EXPANDING RIVET. $.65 ea.

The first one is the grey clips similar to the white "m" clips shown earlier in the thread. I had NONE of these in my wheel wells, only the "i" type Philips push-in type. The other two are the pop out plugs and Phillips plugs for the grill and under bumper. This was for a 2007 MCS with JCW kit.

My I/C comes tomorrow so I'll find out if I break any this weekend.

WOW, why? Just curious, it was the 2nd time for me, 1st was to install the Out Motoring brackets for the Hella fogs.

Yeppers, the stock IC is attached with two screws to the frame, so yeah you need to drop the bumper, unfortunately!

I had the factory MCS bumper.
I swapped out to the jcw kit, then I realized I actually did need the retrofit kit after bad advice saying I didn't. But I test fitted the kit first then removed it again to have it painted.

Was that a MINI kit or 3rd party?
How did the kit items fit?

It was pretty simple to mount everything and they were straight com the dealer un-painted.
The retrofit kit came with the bumper reinforcement, tail/fogs, tail/fog harness converter.

Submitted for your inspection...
Just got my Helix IC delivered and was all excited until I saw the dreaded hole in the inner box similar to TonyCheckraise so I started taking pictures. Turns out the tube on that side survived just fine except for a questionable internal structural issue - more on that later.

However, the tube on the other side was slightly out of round as you can see in the close-up. Should I be concerned about this? I'll be installing a new silicone hot-side boost tube on that side with clamp. Should I make it more round or not worry about it?
Thanks.

I was also concerned about a strange looking weld in the cold-side port where it looks like a crack forming that leads to the tube edge. It's like two pieces of aluminum welded together at that point. The outside looks smooth and nothing is coming through but I was worried that area may be weakened and tightening the hose clamp down could put more stress on it and eventually break. Is that even possible? Guess I should ask Rob if it's ok.

I wouldn't be concerned about this... It not being perfectly round is a non-issue as long as the metal isn't cracked.

That's not a weld, that's casting flash. It's not detrimental to the structure of the end tank and it's not going to deteriorate with time. Cast aluminum is going to need a lot more than a hose clamp to weaken it. You're all good IMO
