It should fit the grill just fine and no tuning needed. It won't mess the ECU up at all. The ECU learns and adapts to what's new. To a point of course.

I come from the Subaru world where if I wore different color socks than that of previous day I needed a tune. Is this the case?
I'm in both a 2011 MCS with a N18 and a 2012 MCS.
Hey man, previous WRX owner here as well. From what I can tell, there will be a small nominal "un-tuned" horsepower increase, simply because of the cooler air charge at the higher RPM range when the stock intercooler becomes inefficient. The same way as say putting an STI intercooler or aftermarket one on a lightly modified WRX. Obviously getting your car a pro tune will unlock all the hidden horsepower, but a bigger intercooler doesnt directly attirbute to the hp increase, it just keeps the air cooler to allow the fuel mapping to be more aggressive in the upper RPM ranges.
My suggestion, treat the MINI the same way as the Subaru. Add all the bolt-on drivetrain parts at the same time (or add them over time while on the stock tune) and when you have everything upgraded, spend the money on a pro tune once. As far as i have read, so long as you stay on the stock turbo, you wont run into major issues with any of the bolt-on stuff with a stock tune.
