Ok, I'm looking to replace my runflat bricks with something lighter/smoother.
I don't autocross and just want something with decent wet/dry/snow traction that won't burn off in 3000 miles. Something balanced, if you know what I mean.
Should I:
A: Get 16" rims and tires (cheaper)
B: Just replace the runflats when they burn off with decent 17" and keep a can of fix-a-flat in the boot.
C: Other?
Many thanks!

This is what I did,
I got a set of used 16" X-lites and put Yokohama AVS ES100 205/50/16's on for good weather. Great tires and cheap too. Fix-a-flat in boot. The 17" S-lites will be fitted with an all season/winter tire next fall when I can afford it and need them. Mine have the "performance" Dunlops. The 16's really help the car, especially with standard (lighter) tires. With the X-lites you can Autocross in the stock class as well (16x6.5) The run flats are ponderous in comparison. Well, you asked!

I bought 17" x 7.5" Kosei K1 wheels with 205-40-17 Kuhmo MX's. This combo saved 14# per corner over my 17" s-lites with Pirelli Euforis. It also lowered the car 1/2" (the Kuhmo's are 23.5" dia and the Pirellis are 24.5". If you ever intend to go to larger front brakes you'll need to stay with 17" I think. I don't have any time with this combo @ speed but will open track @ Buttonwillow on March 15 -16 and report back!

Both are great summer tires. The AVS ES100's are more all weather than the Azenis. The ES100's at least have some usable tread. The Azenis should not be driven in snow. However, the Azenis are a little better in the dry.
The ES100's run $75 each and the Falken's run ~$110 each.

>>How are they in the snow?
They suck in the snow (actually, they slip and slide), but they are awesome in the wet and dry. I've never had so much fun in the rain. I also changed out the 17" S-Lites w/ run-flats and got a 16" package deal from R-Speed with the Rota Circuit 8's (like ficcion's). Call and talk to Peter. Noticable difference in acceleration, ride, and looks.
I like the idea of using the S-Lites w/ snow tires in the winter, but I sold mine with the tires the day after I picked up the MINI. We don't typically get snow in TN, but I would have given anything to have some snow tires this winter (we've had multiple days of 2, 4, and 6" snows). Hills are a b----!

Thanks for all the info!
So is there a good all season replacement or 16" wheel/tire replacement that anyone can recommend for Northern climate driving?
I'm up in Wiscaaansin and although I've only had to shovel 3 times this year we usually get our fill of the white stuff.
Thanks again!
