R56 Scorpion or Remus
Scorpion or Remus
I have told myself that I am not going to get an exhaust over and over, yet here I go again. I cannot stop watching and reading all the different variations of what sounds and looks the best. So I have given up the idea that I'm not going to buy one.
I have narrowed it down to two very different systems, well one of them is not a system since it's only axle back. Yet, there is an allure the Remus sound, yet the cost for just a muffler is a little crazy considering I can get a full cat back for either less or a little more money.
Most of you probably don't have either of these systems, but maybe you know somebody who does, or have heard them in person. So I am asking any NAM members do me or anyone else who might be interested in either of these exhausts some feedback or just opinions.
For the haters that are going to criticize another thread about exhaust systems. I feel your hate already, so spare me the search BS. I just want dialogue so I can try and make an informed decision. TIA

I love Remus personally as it is great quality and sound. There is a sound clip and a great review of the product here. Unfortunately, we just had a 10% sale for them that just ended, but if you're learning towards it and can afford it go for it. Here is another thread with another person from NAM that is happy with the product.

I have heard the Scorpion more than a few times...
for the $$ it is a good deal....slightly more raspy and not as deep tone compared to a MILTECK/STRATOS, but at a much lower $$, and it still looks nice....a MILLION miles ahead of the cheap e-bay units IMO...
the REMUS has been a RARE beast until recently...somebody seems to have imported a bunch (previously they were ordered from Europe one or two at a time)...and the price went from CRAZY $$$$ to something reasonable...
One tip...while mounting an exhaust is not a bad DIY, a shop might be a good idea...
on the r53 there is an early hanger setup..basically the launch till mid 2004, and the late to accommodate changes for the cabriolet....it is easy for a guy in a shop to do a 5 minute change...but hard in the driveway unless you weld.....and some exhausts exist in BOTH versions, but the sellers don't know which they have...the early Scorpion ones were the early hanger style...then they switched...

Another great sounding exhaust for a good price would be the Invidia Q300 sytem. Has a deep mellow tone to it. Can't beat its $645 price tag.
But if you are going to go with either a scorpion or Remus, I'd go with the Remus.
I had planned on going with Remus before I came across the Invidia.

Well, I couldn't take it anymore so I bought the Remus last night. I will make some before and after sound clips, I know there's already a few out there but I'll add what I can. And a review of course. I've wanted a Remus exhaust for many years, for some reason I couldn't find one when I had my old VW with the VR6...I miss that sound. Hopefully the Remus exhaust will bring back some grins.

I just got the Remus installed today and my initial thoughts/review. This is based on driving it for about an hour or so. The sound is deep, a little deeper than stock. With the flaps closed it's possibly quieter than stock. So I left them wide open and will probably never touch them again since I wouldn't want it any quieter. The only other people running this exhaust who I think would have use for that flap is if you remove the center resonator and go with a straight tube, and you just could not deal with it being so loud with the flaps wide open at least you'd have the option to close them. I have seen all the YT videos of the "loud" raspy sounding Remus exhausts mainly from Europe, I can tell you that if you want that particular sound, loud and raspy then you may as well order the straight tube or get one custom made.
I like the sound, it has a nice rich deep sound, but when you fire it up you're not going to even think you bought an aftermarket exhaust. Now this may change in 3 months when it has fully broken in, but I am telling you that is sounds like a stock exhaust on the initial install. Whether it performs better is not relevant because let's be honest, it's an axle back. It would take so many modifications from the DP all the way back to make any difference in HP gains, on top of a tune, etc.
In the looks department is where you get the biggest difference. The 102mm cannons do stand out quite a bit, and it takes some getting used to, but I like them. Right now I think I have them sticking out too far, they need to be pushed back at about a half inch. You could definitely get charred if you're not careful.
