Tire warning light. Do I need to get it checked out.

So I was driving down the freeway yesterday and my tire warning light thingy came on. I was about to get off any way so I stopped at a gas station and checked tire preasures. 2 tires were below 30 psi so I put a little air in them. I have checked them again today and they still have 33 psi in them. Of course the light is still blinking I dont know if I should take it to the dealership to have it checked or just turn of the light myself.

Basically I'm just wondering if there is someother reason besides the low preasure that it would go off for?

it's usually a false alarm, mine must have went off at least a dozen times in the 2.5 years of ownership, with only once being an actual flat.
mine usually goes off from strange things, like hitting a pothole or having uneven weight distributon in the car (when I haul heavy things in the back).

make sure your tires are ok, reset it yourself, and see if it reappears in a day or two ... if so, you might have a slow leak or some other definite problem.

I will repost the tire reset process. Start the engine but do not move the car into gear. Press and hold the tire pressure button untill the light on the dash comes on. Release button and drive off. The system is reset when the light goes out.

Remember that our tire monitoring system measures tire speed at each
corner. A tire with lower pressure will not rotate as quickly as one with higher pressure and the light in the dash will go on.

Also note that MINI reccomends you reset the system on a monthly basis to compensate for tire wear. My ma suggested that we reset the system on the day we mail in our payment.

Thanks, James, I'm going to re-calibrate mine today. :-)

Slicerd, 33's pretty low; check the sticker on the inside of the driver's side door for recommended pressures. I leave my runflats at 38, which might be a couple pounds high, but I'm also compensating for how quickly they lose air. :-(

So when this happens repeatedly with the runflats it's not cause to get the tires replaced?

and your pressures are fine, I'd wonder.... I have an 02 with 67k on it. Mine has gone off about 8 times all the time I've owned it. I never do monthly resets. When it goes off, I check pressures and reset.

I'd only wonder about the flat tire warning system, not the tires. It seems like a pretty idiot-proof system, but maybe a bit on the sensitive side. This thread was the first I've heard of needing to re-calibrate the system, but I suppose that makes sense. Most of the time mine lights up, it's due to a low tire (down 13 psi this morning...).

i had one occasion where the TPM came on in error. all tires had 35+psi.
I just reset the monitor and everything was fine.

You are more likely to get false alarms in slippery conditions... heavy rain and ice/snow. I check my tire pressure every other week or so and I only got a false on a day when there was ice on the roads.

^^ that's understandable since the TPM runs off the ABS sensors.

mine was on a sunny day. not sure what the issue was...maybe i was
driving over a little bit of pebble on one side of the car or something.

Hey all I had a Flat and I got it fixed but the Light is still blinking. I don't think I have a Tire Flat button, Well not one that I could see at least. I do have the Dvd Nav if that effects anything. I checked all the tires they were all above 30psi. Got any suggestions? Thanks for your time.

Synigod, get your pressures up, for one. If you're still using runflats, you're about 8 pounds too low. The flat tire monitor reset button's on the e-brake housing.
