Hey Guys. I purchased a 2012 Countryman to work on and put back together. I am to the point now where I'd like to take the wheels off so I can address some things under the car. However, they came with the Factory lock nuts without a tool. And I have no way to read the number to order a replacement tool. Does anyone know what it would take to get one of these off? I mainly need to know what kind of tool and size to purchase in order to get at it.

The dealerships should have the correct socket to take them off assuming they are the OEM ones. In my case the socket was stripped and the sales manager went to the parts department and gave me a new one for free. Pays to be nice and not yell at them some times.

I removed them and went back to stock so I wouldn't get stranded on the road.

 

The dealer is quite far away from where I live. I didn't know if anyone had used an aftermarket tool to remove. I may check some local tire shops and see if they have encountered something similar.

 

I believe there are about 9 different key patterns.
A MINI dealer probably has them all.
A good tire place probably has a universal tool, although it might booger up the wheel lock but it’s used on.

 

I dont mind to chew up the wheel lock. I have ordered the OEM parts without locks to go back in. I am also purchasing a stock set of wheels from a forum poster here to go back on. So I don't care at all if the current wheels get damaged. They are worn anyways. I'll try a local tire shop first, then if I have to, I'll drive the hour or so to a mini dealer if I need to.

 

Check in the glovebox, tool bag in the trunk if it has the little bag. Also they might have stuck it under the driver seat with the tow tool.

A local dealer can go through the locks and match it up. There are several types and they dont have a part number

 

If you don't care about saving them and they don't have the key, any competent mechanic can get those off easily in a shop. It's out on the street without tools that makes it tricky.

 

I wasn't aware of the toolbag and a tow tool under the drivers seat. I will check those locations today.

In the back, where would this toolbag be? Is it in a compartment that isn't real noticeable?

If you can't find the correct key, you can use a cheap 12 point socket. Find one that barely fits and hammer it on over the locking nut. Then use a breaker bar to turn the socket.

How did it go on the search?

 

So, I tried multiple avenues in order to remove those suckers. What ended up happening is I went to Tire Discounters and a very friendly tech was able to remove them for me. This was a first for me because I've always managed to get these things off haha. But he was super nice and we chatted for a bit. He was into Mini's and actually knew a few things about them.

I really appreciated all of the help guys. Now to move on to address some other issues with the vehicle. You'll see more posts in other sections soon!
