R61 Tool Kit For Paceman?
Tool Kit For Paceman?
My new 2013 Paceman S doesn't even include a wheel wrench or jack. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for what should be included in a set of tools to carry in the car - things that would be handy for dealing with minor issues when on the road. I know I could buy a jack kit for the car, but given that there is no spare, that seems unnecessary. Almost all of our driving is urban.

Out of habit I keep a 4 way lug wrench in mine, similar to:
http://www.harborfreight.com/14-inch...nch-95932.html
I also keep a small socket set, pair of screwdrivers, and paper towels. Other than that, I'm not sure what else you'd really need. I haven't tried to get jumper cables on the battery yet though, maybe some sort of trim puller?

Did you check the trunk under the fold flat carpet, storage arear? Maybe hooked in the back like the countryman.

If not, the tool case is the same from the countryman.

Tool Kit
The only thing supplied with the Paceman is the tow bar. We looked and I asked Mini support - nothing is provided for the US Minis. I don't think I need a jack - I was just curious about what kind of hand tools would be useful in an emergency.

Thanks for the info, last I heard they were getting the tool kit like in the countryman.
For just hand tools and no wheel or lift tools, the tool bag helps because you can store item in it. Its good to have a jack for an emergency, or if you get a spare wheel / tire in the future.
Taking some parts from the R56 Hardtop tool kit. The screwdriver Philips / flat head is good to have. The MINI tire mobility kit is a also helps.

Then after that, some metric common size wrenches.
Possible some jumper cables.

I have jumper cables and will put them in the car - that is a good idea. That, and a couple of screwdrivers seems to be all that is needed.
We had no-end of battery problems with the 2004 S we owned - with the battery in the trunk. My wife was not driving it much, and the battery would run down. The other thing we discovered was that not locking the car when it was in the garage (with the remote just inside the door to the garage) - was that it was using power talking back and forth, and that ran down the battery. We always lock the car now - even when it is parked in the garage. We found out when the same thing started to happen on the 2008 S - the dealer mentioned that the car needed to be locked - or the remote moved far away from the car. Never had that happen in any of the other cars I have owned.

Your are welcome.
Sounds good. Post up some pics when you can of your Paceman S when you can and happy motoring.

As RF tires are going off my ALL4 as soon as winter rubbers are due, I decided to go With this solution:
http://www.tdnparts.com/spare-tire-adapter-kit/
So, proper tool kit was neeeded. First stop: eBay.com.uk (as usual). Found a Countryman OEM kit (new). With shipping, came to half price what the dealer was asking. No complaints!

I found the tow hook attached under the driver's seat the other day. I was rushing around so I didn't really check if anything else was under there, but i'll have to take a look tomorrow.
This is the case with most cars that have a keyless fob/proximity sensor system. Even if you don't have comfort access, if the car is unlocked it car will be constantly trying to detect where the key is at physically, and if it's the correct key (RFID). If it's locked, it does not run those checks until it is unlocked, or the comfort access (for those that have it) button is pressed on the door. It doesn't use up a lot of power, but over the course of a couple days those running sensors can drain it down enough it won't start. My 2008 hardtop did the same thing.

Yes, I found the tow hook under the drivers seat also - I had to point it out to our MA when we were back at the dealer for an event.
Regarding the remote running down the battery - I have owned a number of (non-Mini) cars that did not have this problem - Lexus, Infiniti - they could sit for days without any impact to the battery. My wife's Mini was not driven a lot - but still. Now that we know, the car is locked in the garage every night.
The dealer also told my wife that the problem could be reduced if the remote was far away from the car - so I don't think it is purely the car trying to find the remote, but talking to it. She used to leave her keys just inside the garage entrance to the house.
Not a big issue, but you would have thought the dealer would have warned my wife after the third time the car was brought in for a run-down battery. But then again, this was the same dealer who refused to return a car after service because they had not completed washing it - when it was pouring rain outside!

Yea,
Here is a pic of it under the seat for the Paceman model if they installed it before delivery. Not sure why it there, but if you need anything else the parts are all listed above in the thread.
