Running non-sensor wheels question

I have a `07 Cooper S with 16" wheels that have air pressure sensors. I'm looking at going with a little wider tire on a 17" rim like a R98 or similar. My question is, can I run a non-sensor type wheel on my car without having an indicator light on all the time?

You will get the indicator on all the time with the non sensor wheels.

Thanks, I was afraid of that. I understand there are some wheels that don't have a flat surface for mounting the sensors. Unfortunately it seems to be that every wheel I like doesn't accept a sensor.

If memory serves me properly, this issue was corrected by placing all four sensors in an airtight PVC tube, pressurizing the tube to nominal tire pressure, and putting it under a seat. A Search of the forums should give the details of exactly how it was done.

R98's are TPMS compatible. They were the OEM wheels on my '07 S, (November build date.)

Thanks for the reply. This is good news on both accounts. I'll look for the thread/s that expound on the subject.

Some OEM MINI sensors have a soft membrane on the bottom and small tabs on the end designed to sit above the inner barrel's surface which is allowing air pressure to that membrane. (post 2010 models I believe ) So in some cases, you may be able to make them work...seen it done on a set of R-85's.

I successfully installed a set of 2010+ sensors on a set of R84 X-lites, it can be done.

Thanks for the replies. I've been eyeing a set of Anthracite R90's. So if the possibility of using them exists now (without a warning indicator always lit) I may spring for them.

I believe your MINI can coded do that TPMS is disabled. No the dealer will not do this. Helix did a bunch of coding changes on our clubman & IIRC that was one of the coding options that could be done.
