Newbie Wheel Question

Hi all, so I have the option of picking up a set of 17x7.5 +40 Gram Lights 57c's for my 2006 Mini Cooper S-- me and my buddy just did a test fit (rim only) and it doesn't appear they will rub, and it appeared the stock lug bolts work with the aftermarket wheels (which I was surprised by)

So I need to jump on these if I am going to. I tried doing some research but I am running out of time if I want to get them mounted and balanced today.

Will these work ok? Do I need anything else? I came across a lot of discussion on hub centric rings, but no real consensus on them. The hub bore of the wheels is ~60mm with a tape measure, which is quite close to the Mini's hub size. And my logic is that since the stock lug bolts are acorn-shaped, they should center the wheel on the hub.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated! I don't want to run into any roadblocks if I bring them over to the local NTB to get mounted today!

Thanks!

The wheels will fit, so will the OEM bolts.

In general if you can get hubcentric rings for any aftermarket wheels that are not an exact fit over the 56.1mm MINI hub, you should do it. In a pinch you can use the wheels without the rings but make sure they are centered before you tighten everything down.

Compared to stock the 17x7.5" wheel with et40 will stick out about 8mm or 0.3" more.

Thanks, I appreciate the reply. I got the wheels mounted, and they look great. However, 3/4 ended up being slightly bent. They did balance out, but I do notice a very slight vibration over 60 mph (not shaking, but some minimal added vibration). I also feel as if they are noisier, which I am not sure is from the bends or if its just siuce they are so much lighter. I am concerned about the wheel bearings, but I don't know if there is any real side effect since they balanced out. Have any thoughts on that??

If the wheels are visibly bent you can ask around for a wheel repair service in your area, usually they can repair a wheel and minimize that problem. Then you can rebalance and see it that helps.

Also if you have lots of mileage on your MINI check the suspension bushings for wear especially the front lower control arms

I am already inquiring with different repair shops in the area. They look so badass, might as well make them straight!

At higher speeds the lack of centering rings becomes more noticeable.

In this case, I don't think it's from not having rings. The wheels are centered on the hub. It's likely the visible bends

Visually perhaps...........others who had posted have said they look centered but when they got the rings it made the difference. They are cheap. Why wouldn't you get them?

Interesting. Well, there really isnt a lot of room between the hub (~56mm) and wheel bore (~60mm). Plus, the lug bolts assist in centering the rim.

I am going to get the rims straightened, so I will definitely assess the vibration level again once they are fixed and go from there.
