Where is the TPMS Receiver Module?

Back at AMVIV8, I had the TPMS system "disabled" by WMW along with some other changes. Recently, I decided to test it, since I still have the sensors in the wheels...so I let some air out of a rear wheel, and as soon as I started the car I got a low tire warning.

Wrote to Way to tell him I don't think the TPMS disable worked. With him being extremely helpful, he advised me to "on the TPMS try disconnecting the module. They said that may be required too. It shouldn't throw an error since we reprogrammed it to ignore the modules."

So are we talking about the receiver module? I find it on places like
RealOEM and such, but can't find where it is. I know it's here somewhere in my 2010 R56, but where? Can anyone help me locate it?

Many thanks in advance.

Sorry, can't help. However, why would you want to disable the system?

Well, obviously it's not ignoring the modules. Contact Way again for more information. He tries to be helpful.

Because it's a PITA, and I don't like it...we can thank Ford for it.

I check my tires all the time, I don't need an expensive sensor to help me with it. And when I get to the point of needing new tires, I want to just pull the wheels sensors all together.

I live in Colorado, and it's sucks when you pull out of the garage in the winter, park in the cold somewhere for an hour, and bam....low tire warning. Hell, I know that, it's cold out....the pressure drops.

Probably old skool....never needed it before, don't need it now. Just one more thing to go wrong that's unnecessary. Hell, I can buy two tires for the price of replacing one bad sensor.

It's one of the problems with Federal Govt and NHTSA...mandating gadgets to compensate for the complacency of American drivers. There's no requirement for a TPMS system anywhere in the world except for North America.

Well that's what I thought too, it's why I told him in an email that I didn't think the "disable" worked. But, he told me to disconnect the reciever, so I thought I'd give it a shot, but I can't find the damn thing. Probably end up seeing him again at MITM.

One of the best features of tire pressure monitoring system is to let you know you may have a flat. I couldn't hear the damn thing in my 1st gen convertible and ended up ruining a nearly new tire with only 175 miles on it. Otherwise, I do as you and check my tire pressures all the time. (I'm constantly alerting others of low pressure when I'm out driving.)

I don't know how your warning system alerts you, but can you simply install a switch to disable the audible part of the warning system? Or is it not that simple?

I have a 2011 R57 and I found mine on the inside of the rear bumper. It was mounted on the shock absorbing foam piece inside the bumper. You have to remove the bumper to get to it.

You're 100% correct, that is an advantage to it. I work in a profession where driving (aggressively I might add) is my primary tool. Through vehicle behavior, I can normally detect a low tire at 20% or so below the standard inflation value. And if the tire went so low as to induce destruction, I'm confident I'd detect the problem before the tire was destroyed. If it went quicker than that, then it's probably a blow out and my road hazard warranty on my Kuhmos would replace it. But you're right, it could be a tire saver if I happen to miss that detection.

Not that simple...it's a display warning on the tach with an audible gong, like all the other warning indicators. And once it's activated (such as decreased pressure due to atmospheric conditions) you need to go through the TPMS reset procedure to clear it.

I had Way do the same thing on my 08 R52 when I had it there but when I put on my aftermarket wheels with no sensors the light came on. I thought he had disconnected the module but after asking him it turns out he didn't and suggested that I do it to see if the light goes off. He is telling me the module is behind the rear drivers side speaker panel but If I remember correctly there were multiple modules back there when I had that panel off so I'm trying to figure out which one is the TPS one. If anyone has a pic it would help out a lot.

Were you ever able to locate where the control module was located?

On my 08 R52 it was in the rear passenger side behind the panel in the boot.

Near the top of the panel there was an access panel I popped out.
