Tire manufactured date

I got a new tires last Saturday they are Falken 452 (215/45 17). I just noticed the tire manufactured date is 4708 for all 4 tires. Aren't those tires too old? or do I need to ask them get a latest one?

By the way, I can check 2 tires manufactured date from outside and 2 tires from inside.... weird I thought I could check tires manufactured date from out side.

Doesn't 4708 mean they were made in Novemeber 2008? That is just over a year in a product that should have a six year life, right?

Dates used to be on the inside so customers couldn't see them. Then it changed to the outside (government regulation?). Are the ones on the inside showing the same date?

Are they directional tires?

Robin,

Thanks for your input and I thought they were made in Nov. 2008 and they said about six year warranty or something.

And yes I see they have a same date on the inside too. I think mine's are directional tires and I can see all of them right rotation arrow though.

So I don't have to worry about them?

If they were sitting in a warehouse and not out in the sun, I'd have no problem with anything made within the last 2 years. It's not like you're buying potato salad. It's normal for the date code to be stamped on just one sidewall of all tires.

Thanks for the info. And yeah I understand that the date to be stamped on just one sidewall. I was wondering about why I can see only two tires the date from outside and other two tires date from inside, so my question is all tires should see the date from outside? or does not necessary? because I see the date from out side all my previous tires. I am going to drop by after work hope it is not a dumb question to them.

zemina,
You stated your tires are directional. That means if mounted correctly the tires will have a "left" side and a "right" side. The date stamp would always be on the same tire side so it would only be exposed to the outside on the driver's side or passenger's side of your car. Your other tires wee probably just mounted with the date to the outside of the rim thus they would not be directional.

Yep, I just drop by the tire shop and ask him. He mentioned my new tires are directional so I can see only two tires' date from outside and others are inside. So they should fine

The date code means they were manufactured on the 47th week of 2008. So their pretty fresh. So far only Mercedes actually states in their manual to not install tires that are over 5yrs. old. Like any rubber product tires will dry out and rot over time. Yours are young so I wouldn't worry about it. All other car manufacturers haven't put any age limit on tires but I wouldn't put anything over 5yrs. old on anyway. Not that they'd last that long anyway on our cars!
