Pedal firmness

Is there are way to firm up the pedal feel in the JCW brakes? I know you can replace some bushings in the stock brakes, but is there on for JCW?

Different fluid had an effect on my Subaru, not sure how sensitive MINIs are, though. (I imagine it would make a difference, but don't want to feed you non-first-hand information)

Stainless steel brake lines, unless the JCW comes with those already...

You might have some air in the lines. Get a Motive Power Bleeder and flush the entire system. This will make sure you are "air-free".

If that doesn't work, try the old-fashioned method of flushing by stepping on the pedal. It provides much more pressure and may loosen tiny bubbles clinging to the walls of the brake lines that the pressure bleeder may not get rid of.

Thanx, I have a Motive bleeder and it works very well. I have been driving on the brakes for 3 days now and the pedal has firmed up considerably. When I first installed the brakes the pedal didn't feel spongy per se, just required a little more pressure than my wife's jcw brakes... after reading the instalation pdf on motoringfile I see they need 100+ miles to maximize their effectiveness.. which i think I am seeing now.

BTW, if anyone ever did a brake job with out the pressure bleeder will love the Motive unit.

If you installed new JCW rotors and pads, that's your problem. When I first installed mine, they barely slowed the car down. Within a couple hundred miles they required half the pedal pressure of the OEM brakes. The JCW rotors and pads have break-in period..

Thanx, I loved the bite of the detroit tuned brakes but could not longer stand all of the problems. The JCW will do just fine for my style of driving.
