I am still unsure whether I want to get a true "winter" tire such as the Blizzaks - but my real question is what are my best options for good all seasons for my 16" R83's? NJ can have horrible winters, or mild. The roads I travel are main roads, usually plowed okay. But I'm obviously looking for a step up from my Dunlop SP3000 Perf. RF's (195/55/16) Could I go with a good all season 205/50/16? For years M&S or all seasons got me around fine - so what all season tire would give me good handling and such for winter here?

TIA....

i dont like the low howling noises of snow tires so always use allseason tires in the wintertime here in chicago. i recently purchased some pirelli p6 four seasons from Alex at tirerack.com. to my surprise, on dry roads, the tire stick quote well. no
squeeling. it was dirt cheap too, like 67bucks each. hehehe. i dont see myself
using these for non-winter months, but for normal commute they should probably
work okay for pretty much anyone. these are used as oe tires on A6's.

I was thinking about the Continental ContiExtremeContact. Any comments?

I was thinking about the Falken Ziex 512 in 205/50/16.
Discount Tire quoted me $90 each installed. They also will
switch my wheels twice a year at no charge. But I am also
considering getting some Blizzaks for my 15" rims for the
winter.

What size are the Conti's available in? I'm looking for some all-seasons in 205-50-16, but the pickings are slim. I'm pretty settled on the Falken 512, but I'm also wondering if I could live with the noisy Pirelli p7000.

The best resource info is on the Conti web site here. You will see a good description of "shark fin" as well as a listing of the available sizes. Alex @ TireRack can get Contis for you.

This rating table on the TireRack web site gives good marks to the Contis.

Yeah, but those diameters in the 16 are too large.

I ended up going with the Yokohama ES100s.

The Yoko ES100's are a summer tire, no?

yah, ES100's will not work well in the winter months unless it's dry.

I would not go with 205s, thinner tires are better for snow.

Just move to my neck of the woods, in the wine country of California, and you can run your ES100s all year long.

Ahhhh yes Barry, that would be a lovely idea...I could just have my Breytons with nice fat performance tires and just cruise around all the time. At this point, it may be all seasons on 18's and leave it at that....

I think all seasons on 18s is a great idea. That way you wouldn't have to clutter your garage with two sets of rims. However make sure in the winter the roadsalt and such are cleaned out from the 18s, as you don't want them to be damaged. And as per Northern California, you are welcome to visit, anytime. My home is always open to other fellow Miniacs.
