Aggressive fitment MINIs? Post pics!

just curious if the aggressive fitment has hit mini coopers yet. i currently own a 07 wrx and im looking into seeing what kind of wide wheels/wide tires you mini owners put on your cars.

here is an example of my car, any takers?

another dramatic looking example:

looking to maybe put a 17x8 +35 on a mini, not sure what tires.
not sure what kind of fender mods it would need as well.

thanks!

Beautiful subies

Check out www.motoringunderground.com for the MINI's pushing the bounds on stance and wheel/tire fitment. A bunch of people running 8" or 9" wide wheels with low offsets on their MINI's.

There are a few more over there...but a sample of some of the aggressive fitments on M|U cars.

Haha, I was about to post something similar earlier but then I thought to myself "why not just let Rally do it" no joke.

I would add that on less extreme wheel fitments 7-8", maximum tire widths are going to be 225 or 235.

So for those 17" tires with fitments of 9, what size are those tires usually? low profiles?

Hahah you know me well

Yah 235 is the widest that I've seen run on tires without doing an extreme widebody kit. It's a bit easier to fit the 235's on the R56 supposedly.

I usually advise 215/40 for aggressive offset 17x9's.

I'm running 235/40R17's on my 17x7.5" BBS LM one-offs. They fit fine, no rubbing. Pics once I can actually stay clean with this damn winter weather and salt...

Rally, those shots look great. I am on 15's with an et of 38. I would love to get like 10mm spaces, but I already have so many rocks and etc hit my doors and mirrors while canyon driving and etc.

That's a pretty normal tire for an R56 isn't it? There's just so much more clearance on the 56 compared to the R53. What offset are you running on those wheels?
On an R53, you're going to get rubbing with any offset greater than about 40mm. My 37 offset causes quite a bit on the rear, but nothing on the front.
Also 215, 235 doesn't always mean the same as tire width differs across manufacturers, or so I've found. My 215 Yokos are way wider than my 215 Falkens.

I wouldn't call that a normal fitment. 235 is the widest anyone has been able to fit under a stock arch MINI (unless I've missed a car with 255's or something). "normal" tire is probably 205/45 or 215/45(40 maybe) on a 17x7 for an r56.

It's my personal opinion after fitting wide wheels and low offsets on the r50 and r56 that the r56 really doesn't have the rumored "extra space". I think it's just a perceived difference because a few r56 owners have been able to make it work. Based on the wheels I've fit there really isn't much additional room between the two cars. If anything there is less room up front on the r56.

Yah, the body style definitely caters to larger wheels because of its higher belt line. 17's look pretty fitting, and 18's don't look as improperly proportioned as they did on the early bodystyle. I still love my 16's on my clubman though....I'm a small wheel guy I guess (which explains why i ran the 15's on my r50)

While we are on the topic, what is the optimal offset to fit a 17x7.5 or 17x8 with a 235/40 on an r56?

Same question: But for a R53.

Also since I'm new at this, what happens if the wheels you order doesn't have the correct offset you need?

I'm aiming for Konig Runaways 17x8 w/ 235/40 . I haven't found too many places for these wheels yet, but it seems the offset so far for these wheels are 40...

Mine are a +40 offset. They are a straight drop from the outside edge of the wheelwell. I don't think I'd be able to truly go any lower an offset and still be happy. IMHO, w/ a 17x8, though, you may want to go with a +42 offset just to stay safe from the rubbage.

I have read that 17 X 7.5 et 45 will fit the 235/40s on an R56 with stock ride height, and even some small lowering, maybe half inch.

I have also read that that same combo will not fit the R53 at any height, nor will any other offset. Unless, you do some significant fender trimming, etc. (plastic liner at least, maybe even sheet metal)

I'll add the caveat as mentioned by DrPhil. As tire dimensions vary significantly, there may be a skinny 235/40 out there that will fit the R53, but that kind of defeats the purpose of a nice wide 235.

Personally, I would love to get 235/40R17 meat on my R53.

Hey Rally,

So assuming I have a set of wheels at 17x8 et 40 on stock springs. What is the most meat I can get on the tires before rubbing? I'm going with potenza re-o1 r's .

Knew I forgot something.

Good thing Rally is here to answer the question. I have no clue what the first cars set up is though.

Found another sweet mini:

I'll be honest, I don't know much about fitting fat tires or high offsets as it's not really my style and I haven't had the chance to ever get my hands on sets like that to testfit in person. My knowledge base is more among low offset wide wheels and the tire sizes needed to fit those....I have far more experience in that realm than the opposite one.

17x8 et40 should be alright with stock springs. Some coilovers might cause problems as the perches may get in the way. As noted above 215's shouldn't be a problem, 225's may be possible but you'd really have to look closer into the numbers. Some 225's might be thinner than some 215's....so it will really vary.
