I have the RE01s at 215/45R17 size, they are on some 17 X 7 et45 wheels. I have the stock S suspension and the only rubbing I have is very rarely in the back with a heavy load and a big bump.
The outside of the rear wheel will slightly rub the plastic wheel liner. No big deal, this happened to me only once in 5K miles.
BTW the RE01 is a very wide 215 width. I think measured at around 8.4 inch wide tread

I've run some bigger tires...
This is Rota MC, 18x8 +45, with 225/35R18. (I would have run 235/35R18, but they were too expensive!)
This one is Rota RB, 17x7.5 +45 with 235/40R17.
The 235 is really tight. The factory struts have good clearance, but aftermarket coilovers are not as good, and would need spacers to move the wheel/tire away. Then you'd start to run into the plastic fender arches...

I got a quote from Adam from Alta saying that he could do 235/40/17 on some 17x7 et 40 without problems with rubbing or anything. What's your take on this?
"This car:

uses another Konig wheel, but same offset etc. and I run 235/40/17 with no rubbing even on an AGGRESSIVE drop. You can use 225 as well, but I like the wider look of the 235's."

I know, I'm just commenting on the terminology given and the fact that that's a pretty conservative drop.
235/40/17 is a larger diameter than stock even, so it raises the car and decreases the wheel gap....so to still have wheel gap after the drop with a larger tire would mean that it's really only a 1"-1.5" drop.

I have also read that that same combo will not fit the R53 at any height, nor will any other offset. Unless, you do some significant fender trimming, etc. (plastic liner at least, maybe even sheet metal)

Yah, it's not much, but it's still larger. So, if you aren't tucking a tire even a little larger than stock....that's not an "aggressive" drop. That's a conservative drop at best.

235/40/17 diameter = 24.4 inches
Technically, yes larger, but with a delta of 0.6% that would be insignificant. Impossible to see a change in wheel gap or ride height.
Oops, just saw Dan's post, so yeah...............what he said.

This is not possible on an R53 without plenty of trimming, and not much drop will be possible. Well, you can drop on an R53, but the more you do the more you will have to trim plastic and metal to tuck it in. The main problem is the rear.

On a real aggressive drop, that tire and wheel combo would most likely rub unless you dialed in some negative camber.

I know how to use the tire calculator. My point still stands, if you're not tucking tire, you don't have an "aggressive" drop. That was the only point I was trying to make.

I'm running 225/40/18's on the front with H&R coils.Real tight tolerances with my current adjustments with some rubbing up front. As for the rear I have 225/45/18's. I had to remove the liners and bump up the - camber but I still rubbed off my fender arch lights. IMO a 45 sidewall is too tall but hey they were 20 bucks new on craigslist.

kinda like this vdub. The rear wheels are tucked way more than the front even though the actual car is level..
