I need some help. I met a fellow MINI enthusiast at a meet this weekend. I mentioned I was in the market for some used 17" S-lites and tires. Anyway, long story short. He has the wheels and tires, but two of the wheels have been curb kissed. The tires are in great shape.
Anyone know if the wheels can be repaired? Maybe a body shop can sand and repaint. Would like to know what this might cost. Anyway, here's the pics.

They'll just add aluminum to the affected areas, then sand down smooth, then paint 'em.

Ouch-
I hate to see those scraps. Must be careful with those nasty curbs.
If you want to go whole hog you can chrome plate those wheels
Try Platecorp.com in California about $145 per wheel plus shipping costs.

I'm thinking about buying these. Should I be concerned about possible wheel damage? Flat spots, etc. Or should I take a pass and look elsewhere?

He started off asking $600 until i saw the wheels, and I was like, yeesh, they look bad. So we agreed that once I found out how much it would cost to repair we would rengotiate the difference.
I'm having serious second thoughts. I'm nervous about the damage I can't see. Will probably hold out for a more pristine set and pay for the shipping.

I just visited a business that repairs alloy wheels properly. They had a few pieces of very expensive machinery they use to do the repairs. One of which uses a laser guided measuring tool to measure the wheel first. I noticed a few M3 wheels in there that were being repaired. I'll try to get back there get their names and take a few pictures. Think they charge about 125 a wheel.

that's just curb damage, so i wouldn't worry about unseen damage. if the tires are in good shape (i.e. almost new) then 500-600 is reasonable.

and call around about repair, 125 per wheel is high. there are companies that will come to your house and fix them in your drive-way. i remember a post where someone had this done and it was around $100 for two wheels.
