Either those are nice BMW Center Caps, a good photoshop job, or apparently I like the BMW style and didn't even realize it... any input from the masses?

PSS: from a debate with a co-worker: do wheels & tires count as "mods"?
So thought you guys might like to all know but I actually emailed the manufacturer of the M3 competition wheel to see if they would make a 18" 4x100 wheel for us that is the same. This is the response that I got...

We can custom make the VB3(competition wheel) 18x8.5" in the 4x100 bolt pattern with any offset you require. However we need a minimum order of 40pcs to proceed with production. I've checked the Mini fitment and seems that 18" is not a very popular size? Can you check that and let me know?

So we are all set if we can get at least 10 orders! But thought that you would like to know. As you can see I have not gotten a price form them however I cannot imagine it being higher than the stardard VB3 that they are selling all four for $699. Let me know guys.
Thanks

I'm in for a set if it's under $800... but the less dough, the better

Also.. do we have any specs on weight?.. I would assume that it would only be an estimate as they don't currently have an 18x7.5... I'd probably pass if they were over 20 lbs.. No need for a custom set of boat anchors..

As far as the M3 Comp wheels...they are my favorite set of wheels BUT 18x8.5 is wide as hell. Not sure the MINI could do well with a wheel that wide. Also weight is an issue. If the manufacturer can keep weight around, say, 18lb per wheel, I'd be interested.

You'll need 35 series tires for certain. 40 is just too tall on an 18 to avoid rubbing no matter what the camber and offset.... IIRC.

Put me down for a set of 17x7.5 w/ 42mm offset if under 20 lbs. This seems like the typical aftermarket wheel for the MINI's.

Got an email back from Velocity Motoring regarding their replica M3 CSL wheels...

Nics:
Thank you for your email. I have received an e-mail from another one of the Cooper owners. Regarding the wheels, we don't have 18x7.5" fitment. I can get another mold made for the 18x7.5" size, but in order to absorb that cost, we need at least 100 wheel commited order, and the pricing will be the same, at $699/set. Thanks and feel free to contact me if you have any other questions.

Peter
Velocity Motoring LLC

Now keep in mind, I didn't specify ANY sizes in my email when I asked, I just asked for applications that would fit our cars. So I'm guessing since they have to MAKE a mold, we can specify what we want. Plus, don't we share the same fitment as some Hondas? Maybe we can get them to jump in on this too?

Food for thought (although I feel that they are still pretty expensive as I'm used to seeing wheels that fit our mini for as low as $100/rim).

Before the flaming starts, I think the reason those wheels look good on that car is that 1) they're 19's and look large! 2) they're a low offset. I think they will look different if they were setup for a 40-45 mm offset to fit our cars. Here's one that looks identical and is already being manufactured:

Good eye.. immediately after I saw this thread I went looking for replicas myself and this Ace Arius rim is pretty close in spoke deisgn but there are a couple differences.. the finish is a clear'd machine finish, as opposed to painted/powdercoated (not that it's a big deal but personally, I like either the painted finish or a gunmetal) and second, the spokes don't come flush with the outside of the rim..there's a lip on these. That makes a noticable difference from every angle but straight on. If you've seen the CSL/Comp rims in person (and in some pics), you'll notice that they're a little concave, which gives a dramatic appearance. The Ace rims are more flat front spoke design.

I've looked at a bunch of different "replica" CSL rims and unfortunatley none of these are 4-lug!.. much less 7.5" wide and a 42+ offset. It's a shame but if any of you guys know about 20 more people that would be interested, it looks like a lost cause.

Or...... does anyone make a 5-lug conversion?..

Nics and Typer139 and everyone else,
I am the person who originally contacted Velocity, they said they could do it, then gave them our requests, and they still said that they could do it for a set of four wheels for $699 total!

This is the direct response that I got...

the best (only) way to work this out is to work out a group buy arrangement. Production takes anywhere between 2-3 months. We can leave the price at $699 as long as 100 wheels can be made.

Anyone want to find 25 people that want this wheel to be made. This is probably the sickest wheel for the mini, best price that I can find and I think people would be in like flin. Now lets find 25 people that want this wheel in either 17" or 18". The width would be 7.5" and the offset can be whatever we ask for. They are being very generous with this and really want to help the MINI community out.
Thanks

Racinbmw

I would be down for a set of 18X7.5's. I would just need to see what the actual rim would look like before commiting.

2nd that. This is "Show me your WHEELS" thread, so possibly should stick with it, and start a new thread for that group buy.
