SuspensionSprings, struts, coilovers, sway-bars, camber plates, and all other modifications to suspension components for Cooper (R50), Cabrio (R52), and Cooper S (R53) MINIs.
Alright guys I am in the market for a budget coilover (under 1k). All the treads are pretty old and since alot of the coilover company's now have updated their coilovers. Reasons for choosing budget coilovers:
1: It has 218k miles on them. Seriously doubtful that I will make it to 300k with that being said I don't need coilovers that will last me a long time.
2: I don't drive but maybe 5k miles a year and roads I drive on are very good roads.
3: It's for my DD so no track use.
I want fist hand accounts of your coilovers not "I knew someone". I would like fairly recent accounts as well. I feel 10 years ago companies have probably changed there products. Also I want a set of coilovers with front camber plates. With all that being said here are the coilovers in question.
I had the Megan Euro 2's on my R50 for 5 years as a daily driver. I pulled them off last fall because all 4 were shot and needed a rebuild and had decided to sell the R50. I had the the dampers set at 16 of 32 on the front and 17 of 32 on back, so essentially half of full stiff and it was a stiff ride. Wife HATED it. I LOVED it. They were durable. They did see some track use as well. You may notice a nearly identical look between the BC and the Megan's. There is a reason for that. It is thought that the BC's are made with better materials but they are made in the same factory. They are very similar. The BC's may last longer. My Megan's needed to have the damper valves replaced 5 years on as a DD with some track use . Had I set them to a much lower setting, they probably would still have been on the car when I sold it this summer. Oh, and I think that the adjuster cables for the rears came with the Euro 2's though they are not pictured.
Lots of great options available for just springs and dampers.
You are going to get what you pay for.......cheap crap coilovers.
Because I want to go lower than springs will go and good shocks for lowering springs are $700 (koni yellows) so for that + $200 lowering springs I'm at $900 so might as well spend $100 more for BC coilovers or for the same price go with Megan Racing coilovers

There is a lack of inexpensive, quality options in the suspension world for these cars given their price range. And the factory or stock replacements are mediocre and aging out. I've got some clunking from the top of my front shocks but I haven't found a solution I'm satisfied with to replace the factory package.
I built Bilstein based coilovers for my NA that were great, for about $400. It is ridiculous and we need to figure out a good budget suspension option, because people are not spending $2,000 for coilovers to put on a $3,500 car.
I agree there isn't much options under the 1k mark except Megan's. Which from what I have read actually are pretty good. So I think I'm going to give them a shot and do a good review on them.
I feel that these are a good value. There is always a better and more expensive set up. Again, I really liked mine. They are "entry level" coil overs and they are durable. Portland roads are far from smooth and they lasted 5 years of daily driving at half of full stiff.

The spring/damper combo for the price is going to be a better product in the end. Lots of bad issues with the cheaper coilovers after a few miles. Questionable build quality and consistency, springs are not of a high quality.
Do what you want, but why do it just to do it......
Megan Racing and BC is not questionable in build quality but I would say you are correct with the other brands. BC/Megans are apparently made in the same factory hence why they are so similar. BC's are thought to be made with a little bit more quality parts which are why they are more expensive.
I vote bc, if I wanted cheap I would go with those or MeisterR ZetaCRD, meister is more popular in the UK forums, I have a set on my 135i and I really like them
