Coilovers make more noise than Springs/Struts by Nature?

I am mulling over aftermarket suspension options and I'm wondering if it has been the collective's experience that coilovers made more clunking/shifting/whatever noises than an aftermarket set of springs & struts?

Many thanks.

My ST coilovers don't make any noise at all.

Coilovers not really but the camber plates and sway bar end links certainly can. Its not a big deal though. You get used to it.

If you're in a cold weather area, they're much rougher. Here in Michigan, my KWv2's are harsh in the frigid winter we're having. But, hey,...I'm cool looking

rough in cold weather because potholes, or because of the cold weather itself?

Both.
Cold weather hardens the fluids/materials. Potholes amplify that effect.
Course, I'm also getting older, so may just be I'm a wuss. hahah

It depends on how much you lower. If you drop it WAY too low (slamming the car) during rebound motions the spring may come off the perch. When it's back in a bump motion you might hear the spring 'clink' back on the perch. Of course, if you lower the car according to the coilover manufacturers recommendations you won't have this problem. This phenomena really depends on the coilover manufacturer's free-stroke range and spring length. I was dropped 2.5" on KW v2 with their standard issued springs and didn't have any rattles and such. Just solid performance!

You truly get what you pay for with coilovers. I wouldn't cheap out at all if you want good performance characteristics.

I picked up BC Coilovers and have a clink/clunk when hitting a bump...I thought it might be play in the cv but now I'll got check the perches and bringing it up a little... It's 23" from top of fender to the ground...

Do you have aftermarket swaybar endlinks? They can often make noises if not tightened down properly

Sway bar bushings can 'dry out' and that makes them pretty noisy. If you get oil changed from the dealership or something just have them grease the sway bar bushings as well. One thing that might make noise is if you lower your car you might rub the tire on the fender going over bumps. That can also make quite a lot of noise. Some people have CV/axle issues when lowering. Another noise producer might be the control arm bushings. When I lowered my car there was decent noise and vibration on take off but after about 200 miles it went away. I still had a mechanic verify that my CV and axles were good. They were like new.

I have heard that people who run Megan coilovers have some binding on their coils. Like countryboyshane said, spend the money on a good set up. Personally, I think peace of mind is always worth every penny.
