Koni Sports or Coilovers?

Which would you prefer as daily driver who enjoys spirited runs through say, the badlands and why? Later down the road I'll probably look into track days and whatnot.

As far as pricing is concerned, I'm looking at the $1000-$1500 price range.

Thanks in advance.

KONI Sports. However, to save on labor, I'd suggest installing sport springs at the same time. That set-up will serve you well. Unless you're into serious road racing, coil-overs will cost you more and be rather uncomfortable on the street.

I've got some Swift springs for sale that would be a great match for those koni's. Shoot me a pm if you're interested.

The good coilovers are well over your budget. I would bet you'd be very happy with some Koni FSDs and some lowering springs. They will ride well on the street and still be fun in the twisties. If you do get serious into track days you'll probably end up buying a dedicated car anyways so don't worry about building up the suspension for something you might do later down the road.

I wouldn't pair lowering springs with Koni FSDs.
Koni specifically recommends stock height springs with FSDs.

Looks like Koni recommends FSDs with lowering springs but not on the mini platform. Good to know. Thanks

So Koni sports with lowering springs and FSDs for stock height springs then?

Yep, but if you like prefer reasonable suspension travel and ground clearance,
there's no problem with using the Koni Sports with stock height springs.
They do fine with either stock height or lowered springs.

Have you looked into ST Suspensions coilovers? Within your budget, daily driver friendly and can handle a trips to the track.

I recently put a set of Koni sports w/ H & R springs on my '04. On full soft the ride is still good and the car handles quite well.

Ta87, not that it matters all that much but you're in the wrong forum. This is Series I and you're Series II.

For your budget you could buy a JCW suspension package. It lowers your car about a 1/2 inch. I installed one & am very happy with the results.

I just did an install of Koni Sports, H&R springs and Eibach rear sway bar, overall cost me USD 680 Konis, USD 220 Springs, USD 120 Swaybar, I did the work myself, now need to get new tires and get the alignment done.

Its exactly what I wanted, firmer ride without being over.

same here i picked up a set of koni yellows with swift springs and they are a great match. i also have polyurethane bushing all the way around and IE camber plates, so the car feels very precise firm and supple when need be. i have yet to pick up a rear sway bar or and chassis braces yet but they are on the list.

Almost the same setup for me, but added Alta lower control arms to correct the excessive negative camber. I love the setup for the money.

I assume these can be used with ie fixed plates as they re-use the upper mounts?

Also can anyone comment further on the st's or kw1's vs koni/swift or koni/tsw if they come back?

same use as the op, dd that may see a track day or two, tops.

Cheers

Spent many hours trying to figure out what to use for suspension for my R57 and I ended up with Koni Yellow, Swift R Springs, Hotchkiss 25mm Rear Sway Bar, Hotchkiss Lower Rear Camber Links and Volschlag Camber Plates. I'm running the shocks 1/2 turn from soft and the sway bar in the middle setting. It's very responsive with a firm ride. The small bumps are a little harsh but it corners like its on rails. Very happy with the set up and would recommend.

You can get ST's for $1,000. You can get KW V1's for $1,550.

Quality coilovers are well within reach...

Well the OP said his range is $1,000-1,500. But lots of people don't normally do their own work on their suspension.

ST coilovers are the best bang for the buck especially from suspension source cause they sell the coilovers with camber plates for $1,250, I believe. Then you still have to buy rear sway bar endlinks(Detroit Tuned $155), and lower control arms(H-Sport $240). Also then you're looking at labor and depends where you take it, but the price is well over $1,900 at that point. Not bad, but for their budget, it doesn't fit.

I'd go with the Koni yellows, springs, and control arms. Right around $1,200-1,400 with install. It's definitely okay for an occasional track day, if you're not planning on hitting it hard, if so, ST coilovers all day at that point.

Just n FYI if you decide to go the c/o route, KW owns ST and the KW V1s are identical to the STs. The only difference is that the STs are zinc coated as opposed to Inox. So if you live in an area with a lot of snow and salt and plan to drive in the winter, KW would be the way to go.
