Suspension Bilstein/H&R shock, spring and swaybar kit review
Bilstein/H&R shock, spring and swaybar kit review
I recently replaced my shocks and decided to buy This kit. http://www.promini.com/product-exec/...arch_model/100
It's a set of H&R springs, bilstein sport shocks, and an 18mm rear sway bar. My car is a 2003 Cooper S and it was completely stock except for non run flat tires. I wasn't terribly excited about lowering an already low car, but I decided that I'd probably enjoy the performance enough to live with the lack of ground clearance. I also decided to install powerflex control arm bushings in the front as after 130,000 miles my originals were worn out.
My dad and I decided to do the install ourselves but snapped the bolt that holds the shock to the steering knuckle on one side and ended up in over our heads so we did the other three corners and took the car to a shop for the bushings and to fix our broken bolt problem. After all the work and frustration, the shop told us that they'd have installed the kit for probably $350. In hindsight, I'd have just paid them to do it. Oh well, the result is phenomenal. I've had the kit on for a little longer than a week and I love it. Before I put the springs and shocks on, the car had a significant amount of body roll, and it understeered pretty reliably. Now, I can hardly squeal the tires, I keep trying to push the car too hard, and can't! The ride is as comfortable as stock, and the performance is outstanding. Now i'm looking for ways to get more power out of the thing to keep up with the suspension.
I had trouble finding reviews for this kit, which is why I wanted to share. The price is good, and the handling is phenomenal.

I just ordered bilstein sports and h&R springs for my 2009 clubman S. Can anyone tell what other pieces/mods i just be doing at the same time , such as bushings, links, etc. my car has 27,000 miles on it idk if that help with the suggestions . thanks
I'd probably do the lower control arm rear bushings, and you might need adjustable links in the rear so that they can get the camber right in the alignment. Other than that, a sway bar would be nice, and a strut tower isn't a bad idea. I have mushroomed towers so I definitely recomend reinforcing them, an ounce of prevention...
Thats actually pretty expensive. Promini isnt one of those vendors that is known to sell parts at a low cost. You could have got a set of coilovers and a sway bar set for that much. Its neither here nor there now but you wont go wrong with Bilstein. They are a great company.
Perfect i just ordered all 4 thanks for the advice. One more question do i need those rear shock bushings with the bilstein sports. thanks again

Except for H&R, which uses Bilstein internals
But the spring rates on those aren't great and they're too low.- Andrew
