Wheel Fitment Question

My friend has a set of 16x8" wheels +0mm offset with 205/45/16's just wondering if anyone has run 0 offset on a 07-up? I can't find much wheel fitment info anywhere, I am very skilled in the world of wheels but not with a Mini. I have fit wheels on cars that even the wheel manufacturers said can't be done just by lots of measurements and calculations. I am not a noob just need the basic info and pics of said setup would be great help as well. Car is a 2009 Base Mini with stock suspension, it is my wife's car and I thought of doing suspension next year possibly.

I'm not going to be much help with specifics, but the various OEM MINI wheels have offsets in the +35 to +52 mm range, so I think wheels with a zero offset will stick out *way* too far, and that's not something you can correct with spacers.

That's correct, any less offset will make the wheels stick out more.

I don't care about what is "supposed" to fit....I want to know facts of what WILL fit. The wheel manufacturer said you couldn't fit a 20x10" on the rear of my E46 Sedan, but I sure did with no rubbing. I also ran 18x10" on the rear of my VW Passat.

Considering a stock wheel has a 48mm offset, and 1 inch = 25.4mm, that means a 0 offset wheel will stick out almost 2 inches more than stock.

Cliff notes: Don't do it, they won't fit, they'll stick out too far.

Well, all the MINI OEM 16" wheels I could find have an offset of +48 mm, so you're already going to be poking out almost 2" further than stock. Plus, 8" wide wheels are 1.5" wider than the OEM 16" wheels, so there's some additional poke as well.

Using this calculator, it appears that you'll pick up 29 mm of extra clearance on the inside of the wheel, but the wheel will extend an additional 67 mm further outward than the stock wheel. That's over two and a half inches, so whether or not you can clear the fenderwell is going to depend entirely on how much you lower the car.

Long story short, you're firmly in "no-man's land" here, and no one here is going to be able to tell you with any certainty whether 16 X 8" wheels will work unless they happen to have tried it themselves.

Also, you might want to check out this thread - it's by a bunch of posters running 8" and wider rims. There's no one in that thread with zero-offset rims, though.

From that thread, here's a Clubman running 16X8" wheels with 205/40 tires instead of 205/45. You can see how much stretch he has, and he also had to dial in 5.5 degrees of negative camber to make it clear (so much for tire life). Problem is, those wheels have +33 mm offset, so yours would stick out about an inch and a quarter more:

I think Rally@StanceDesign has run 16x8 with 0 offset before, but on his R50.

Edit: maybe they're 15x8

At stock height, I see it fitting. Though, I see accelerated wear on suspension components as well with 0 offset. Stress points will exist at a lot more concentrated ares than with oem offset, which is most evenly distributed. Thats the M.E. speaking in me, but I cant be sure without doing out calculations/running stress analysis on the computer. If they're your friends, why not just try them out? Whats there to lose

On my R53 JCW I'm running a 15x7.5 with 30mm offset and 205/50/15. This offset pushes the tires to the edge of the fender, maybe barely past. I'm slammed on coilovers and only running -1.2 degrees camber in the rear and no rubbing at all.

I can't imagine a 0 offset however. It would be like running huge 30+mm spacers.

In most people's opinion the most extreme successful 16" fitment on an R56 has been 16x9 et25. An 16x8 et0 will poke 1/2" more and allow for less stretch.

After looking into it some more I will pass on them, it was a very good deal but they are just going to cause issues down the road. I will wait until I pay my truck off next year and buy suspension and maybe just some H&R spacers.
