I'm still confused.

Why would someone want to hide where the coilovers are made if it's a good coil over? I dont get it.

If they are good, the country of manufacture won't change anything.

Unless of course the reseller feels that anything made in Asia is crap, but is hoping that his customers dont find out he is reselling crap? That would probably explain his statements to his "loyal customers".

Precisely my point though.....

We were told "not china, not taiwan" (which IMO screams that it was made in asia because it was so specific)

Chris was told "not asia" on the phone.

If Chris told me "not asia" which would be considered the transference of the lie, i would say "no, M7 said 'not china, not taiwan'" and then go and examine why the misinformation.

This lie didn't spread to affect anyone besides chris.....so the apology shouldn't spread to everyone....just chris.

You are missing one point though....which was voiced somewhere among all this mess.

There are people with the prejudice that all asian things are crap.....they instantly label it poor quality upon hearing its origin. They will not buy any asian parts.

If peter felt that the quality of the coilover was good, he would hide the origin in order to get past the "no asian parts" wall that some people put up and let the coilover speak for itself as a good product. These people who would have shunned it without giving it a chance, would now give the coilovers a shot and i assume Peter had faith that they would be happy with what they found.

I dont condone this practice....but it was a logic you hadn't taken into account so i shared it

M7 said "not in china and no in taiwan".....if someone went on to believe what someone else told them.....they should've taken the time to explore the information provided to them in the vendor announcements before believing what they were told from someone else.
In a way he did. You probably did miss it. Here is his post https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...6&postcount=25

Did M7 intentionally let this linger out there? I have no way of knowing.

A lot of people tried to research the information. But let's face it. Not made in China or Taiwan? It could have just as easily been said that it is not made in Bahrain or Dubai. For that matter there are 193 other countries that they were not made in. Technically, it would be true.

And i guess that's where the question will always stand.....but people should believe what the vendor announces themselves before believing anything stated by non-vendor individuals. If the vendor begins to lie to everyone on NAM in their posts, on their website, or in their vendor announcements....THEN it becomes necessary for them to explain themselves to everyone on NAM (much like the PU situation currently)

wow this threading is getting to long . Honestly I think it should not go any further and oviously peter has not chimed in to explain why he lied which I personally do not care at all. Whoever he lied to and whoever is butt hurt about that should just call up m7 , ask for peter and front him and see why the man lied . If he isnt even involved in this thread dont make it any longer and waste your time . If you are really want to know the truth then you should call him up and speak with him and see whats up.

Once again, everyone assumes that he lied when we don't know the context of the conversation. Unless we hear EXACTLY what was said, we have no idea of what the "truth" is.

Good ol American tradition. Guilty until proven innocent.

I hate to say it, but yeah, we're talking about an alleged lie.

Next point: If one places emphasis on the country of origin of the products one buys, one should put an equal effort into determining the country of origin of the parts one buys.

I don't think the opposite works, either: If one places emphasis on the country of origin or region where products do not come from, one should put an equal effort into determining the country of origin of the parts one buys. ELimination should not be enough. A positive response should be sifficuent

If it is that important, put that much effort into it. Settle for nothing less. And if the vendor won't provide it, buy something else.

And yeah, this jumped the shark about 5 pages ago.

huh... i just read the mininuts board for the first time... lol is all i gotta say.

The basic deal is... who cares. If you don't like the part or where it came from vote with your money...

A lot of you have a reason to have a beef with this thread and the issues it spills over onto... but is it really worth fighting the battle. If things are as grave as you think they are (and to an extent i agree with some of it) then fighting this battle is like showing up to compete in the special olympics. IE... in the end winning won't really prove anything.

It sux if the m7 guys lied. I have no vested insterest as I buy most of if not all my parts second hand and install them myself... but none the less... the information on the shady vendor tactics is worth noting... but not losing sleep over. The lie is alleged any way you strike it, and thus... this is a pointless he said/she said battle.

I have a feeling those that were going to buy these coil over will still buy them after reading this thread... and those that weren't... still aren't going to. Continue with axe grinding.

yup. nothing will change based on this thread. who didn't think the coilovers were sourced from the far east to begin with? most private label stuff is. heck, if it wasn't, I'm sure M7 would tout it being German/Dutch/etc as a benefit

The simple truth is, if it is alleged, and it was a misundertsanding, Peter could have easily thwarted this whole thing by posting that.

He didn't and as such, gives nothing but credence to the side we have heard here. Having his "posse" post responses does nothing but remove the spotlight from the accusation, which I'm sure is why he is just waiting until the thread disappears instead of confronting the issue.

I know from personal experience that when Peter has done something shady, he just avoids the consequences.

I agree... but in my opinion... any and every posse is just as lame as the next and full of dbags just the same. When the dust settles stuff like this makes everyone looks like morons. And the holier then thou attitude the mini posse's seem to have is a joke.

I understand there is history here randy and I have a respect for the fact that you were pivotol in moving this community to where it is (or at least were it should be). However at this point... most every vendor that posts here... seem like sniveling 5 year olds... maybe for good reason and maybe out of spite... regardless every one seems to have blood on their hands. IE... if it were possible to give my money to none of you fools i would... however i have to pick between the negatives and find whoever the lesser moron is.

p.s. don't take this post personally... it's not directed at you, but more the greater state of this pathetic... mini "Tuner" community.

I don't know what it means, just looks like one vendor jumping on another vendor but this is NAM so what's new.

although this thread is new... the undertones are very very old. I don't think any one really wants to discuss it.
