Suggestions on rubbing tires?

Hi,

I have an '04 Cooper S, on the suspension front, I have H Sport springs, adjustable control arms and an H Sport Sway Bar. Last year, I picked up a set of BBS RGF's that are known for rubbing a little in the back - I had Conti AVS 100's on them...

I had a new set of Kumho Ecsta MX's put on, and now I get rubbing on all 4 corners going over bumps.

Does anyone have suggestions on how to get around this? Can I get Coil overs to go with the H Sport springs I have, and raise the car a 1/2' or so? Or should I go for for a full coil over w/ springs solution? Are there any other ways (putting stock springs back on is a solutio, but not a good one, in my opinion...).

Thanks!
Robin.

Hi Ken,

If you do that, do you end upwith holes in the wheel wells?

Thanks,
Robin.

what offset are your wheels and what size are the rims and tires.....h-sports shouldnt drop your car low enough to rub at all but then again your in the very select club of fortunate bbs owners lol

Apparently the BBS RGF's I have are known for rubbing, but it seems to be to an extreme with the H Sport springs.

sounds like an offset issue. there are solutions but, its all depending on what offset you have, tire size and where the rubbing is happening. maybe a spacer can fix it, or a different type of tire. post up all the details you can and then you'll get solutions.

yah, let us know your offset. thought you were rubbing the arches
in the back, not the well liner.

Hi Ken,

The RGF's are 35mm offset, and the tires are rubbing on the outside to the point where the plastic from the wheel well is adhereing to the edge of the tire. This is happening on all 4 tires...

What size tires do you have on? Are they wider and/or taller than stock?

You might try dialing in a bit more negative camber in the rear, and getting some fixed camber plates up front (if you don't already have plates up front) - that would tuck the tops of the tires in a bit.

A lot of people who are running low numerical offset wheels on really low cars just Dremel out the inner lip of the plastic arches to get a little more clearance.
