squeaks and rattles!!!

OK... I give up! I need some insight! :impatient :impatient :impatient PLEASE!!!!

What is the deal with the squeaks and rattles????

My company car, 03' Ford Taurus, which I have beat to death is as quiet as a locked vault compared to this car.

Last night I went around the interior and jam areas with torx wrenches and screwdrivers; and tightened up all bolts and screws I could see...Which wasn't many....
Today I take it for a test drive... It does not sound like it helped!, at all!!

I have squeaks and rattles coming from everywhere. The door panels when you grab them, the dash when you push on it, the seats when nobody is sitting in them, the front part of the sun roof when it is not cracked open or you dont pull on the front of it.. if the road is not butter smooth....they are Everywhere!!!!

I am notoriously very bummed on this since my very first car in 87'.

Does anyone else have this problem??? Or is this just my car.. er' I mean "my wifes car", or is this a typical MINI thing that I just need to accept for having the funnest car that we have ever owned???? I mean come on, this is built by BMW?? My buddy's 73 2002tii was tighter than this! And that was in 91' when it was 18 yrs old!!! After we cut the top off!!??, WOOPS... who would of known how cool that car was to be???

Has there ever been anything posted that shows a... say.... 30k miles "tighten up interior procedure"??? Or just points to look out for???

My car just came out of warranty so this is something I would like to take care of my own. At the final warranty appointment I had the rear hatch "D" bracket replaced, it helped...but it seems that everytime I get in my MINI I have a new squeak or rattle.

This is driving me crazy.....

Please help before my wife calls the shrink on me......

BTW the car is a 03' MCS JCW (custom sig to come)

Thanks, Jasun (I feel better now)...

Lots of minis do this....if you are still under warranty take er in to the dealer...there are lots if threads which are buried here somewhere) on how to use stick on pads to quiet the dash and sunroof squeaks and rattles....We should not have to be doing this, I agree. My 04 is finally pretty quiet but remember the mini is not like a ford family sedan since the suspension is quite stiff and bumps etc are transmitted quite freely throughtout the car...STILL.... My old Porsche never squeaked or rattled...talk about stiff suspension!!

BTW...you are not dealing with the same BMW that built the 2002tii...that was some solid old time engineering (had one too...wish I still had it)

My sunroof is driving me crazy too. It seems worse when it's cold but when I crack it the rattle is lessened by maybe 50%. Luckily the guy I bought it from bought the 4 year extended warranty so I'm going to take it in next week. I remember reading something earlier about affixing pad or something but that's a pretty weak fix if you ask me.

My dash rattle started when the weather got cold. Pressing on it near the windshield made it go away. The fix:5' rubber snake.

Squeaking seat.Pressing on plastic seat bottom surround near rear seat access lever it stopped The fix: trim plastic ring of seat bottom around lever.

Door panel--Mine have been ok (do a search, you will find the felt/rubber fix & more.

You will probably have more luck/fun fixing these rattles & squeaks yourself. Dealerships use some miracle product that only works as long as you are still on their lot!

Untill you fix them you might want to invest in some pepto-bismol & stop beating on your dash!

the sqeaks are features, not problems.

i have TONS of them and have no problem with 20+ hours driving a week.

I'm going to jump in on this one and ask if anyone has solved/fixed the High Pitch squeak from somewhere in the back seat area At one point I had an "interior strut brace" but realized it was a joke and now I wonder if maybe that loosened a few things under the skin and is the culprit.(quite general I know)
OR
Has anyone had a rear seat latch create some of the noise?
I know that I just gave very vague info. but I'm curious to see if anyone has experienced it and what their solution was....

No way to fix the rear hatch squeak.

Its squeaking on the latch itself. Unless you figured a way to stop it from moving side to side your out of luck.

That is where the problem lies. I installed the rear strut tower brace but needed the cargo space more so the brace went. I gained the squeaks when the brace left. ;-( Have you noticed at all that the beam from which it bolts will move a little when you push/pull on it with your hands.
Now knowing that others have the same problem I'm going to try weather stripping tape back there to see if I can reduce it/eliminate it all together!
If I have any success I'll let everyone know.

No more high pitch squeak!!

Good Evening to All!
I came up with a solution to the high pitch squeaking from the back seat. I had never actually spent time looking for it but I gave this a try tonight and it's gone!!!
The weather stripping tape is 5/6"x3/4"
