Bump.

I'm not with my MINI, but I am sure some MINI owner would go measure it for you.

Battery Compartment

The battery compartment will hold just about any battery from the looks of it. I just replaced my OEM battery with an Interstate Megatron 72 month battery. The tow operator say that he never sees that brand dead on the road, and I took his recommendation.

length=235mm, width=171mm, height=175mm

OR

length=279mm, width=175mm, height-175mm

this is the sizes of alternate batteries that i may use with my MCS. i don't have my car with me and i don't have anyone back home who can measure it.. thanks...

My 2003 MCS stock battery is
length=242mm, width=179mm, height-190mm
Terminals face upward with positive to the right.
480 Cold cranking amps

So I'd pick the first one you listed based on size.

Any battery will fit

Almost any battery will fit. Buy a better battery than the original.

My stock battery is-
55ah and 90rc so that is same as original

The second battery has more reserve. Both should work ok.
You pay more for longer life warranty or for more cranking power.

What about the venting? I havent replaced my battery yet but I've heard it has a special vent to the exterior of the car. The only suitable replacement would be one that doesn't need venting (like a gel cell).

When my stock battery dies, I will replace it with an Interstate Megatron. Interstate makes great batteries!

Just my luck...as soon as I post on this thread, my battery dies . The speedo needle has been buzzing every once in a while on startup for the past month so I knew it was about to die. Today, it made one crank and then nothing. I had to let it sit a few minutes to just get the doors to lock. I'm hoping that I can get the rear hatch open on Monday or I'll be having some fun getting it in

I'll be getting a MINI battery this time around to make it easy.

(edit): on second thought, does anyone know what Optima red top fits the MCS?

Just Replaced Battery

I just replaced my battery with an Interstate Megatron battery, and the mechanic had no issue replacing it. They did have to order the battery, but they had it in one day. It's cool because it's a 6-year battery.

Yeah, the MT-47 Interstate battery looks to be a direct replacement. Do you know if the stock vent tube fits the new battery? I know Interstate makes a BMW vent tube adapter but I assume the stock one will fit as well???

Interstate Battery

I opened up the hatch after the replacement was put in, and it looked neatly done, and I couldn't tell any difference in how it was hooked up. I could have saved $20 by putting it in myself, but then I would have the fun of trying to dispose of a toxic battery myself. My local auto shop is great, and I don't mind paying them reasonable amounts of money for service because I like maintaining a relationship with them. They were great about servicing my Acura Integra.

Well I went up to a local garage that had the MT-47 in stock and compared it to the stock battery. It did not have the vent hole. The guy even called his supplier to find out any info...they didn't know either. I ended up buying an Optima Red Top 35.

When I turned the car on, the SES light stayed on. I'm not sure if it was from a misfire from trying to crank it with the dead battery. I'll run it through a couple cycles and see if it goes out. Other than that, the Optima performs fine. I'll post some pics later.
