It hit me on my left foot. What is it and can I drive without it?

This is just a guess, but it looks like a spring?

I believe that might be your clutch pedal return spring. Gotta do some research!

It's IS the clutch pedal return spring. Here is a huge-*** pic:

This is the view behind the knee bolster/parcel shelf (whichever you have), at the point where the clutch pedal hinges. This spring gives the 'over center' feel as well as the return. Should not be a big problem putting it back in, inless something broke, which is somewhat likely (especially at the plastic pedal arm). If it's under warranty, I'd take it back to the dealer if something has indeed broke or you dont want to fool with it.

I have had a problem with the clutch feeling notchy for a while. Dealer (MAG) says it is normal. So it felt ok. I will have a look under the dash. I would think it would be OK to drive. I have a dealer appointment Wednesday anyway.

looks like a clutch assist spring, Your clutch will require more effort to depress... if it is that spring.

I would suspect less effort as that is the return spring.

Less effort for sure. My the clutch is sooo much smoother now. I don't understand why it came off...

My spring also came off at one point. One of the connectors holding it in broke, and the dealer repaired it under warrenty. The clutch felt about the same without it, except for a slight click about halfway.

my clutch compression spring is off on one end... Anyone know if it's safe to drive with it not connected? I don't feel any difference in the clutch pedal.
