Cleaning throttle body - need to replace gaskets?

Hi all...2010 MCS Auto trans.
I am getting the P115C code and it seems to run a bit sluggish. I'm sure the intake tract needs a walnut blast...but if I want to check hoses and clean the throttle body, do I need to replace gaskets for the intake manifold and the throttle body?

Thanks a bunch.

Going to check all hose connections from the MAF to the throttle body this weekend.

Most often times, the answer would be yes if you haven't taken the throttle body off the manifold. But for me, when I remove the throttle body, I always look at how much protrusion the gasket still makes from the gasket slot. If it still has some, I just put it back on, and to date, I've never had an issue. The longest time since I did that was 30k miles ago on an 09 MCS. Others might disagree, but my opinion is, if there are still gasket left to mash onto the manifold with, then there's no need to replace it.

also, while cleaning the throttle body, try not to mess with the flap...it might either damage it or require adaptation resetting.

Whew... MiniTobe is right, DO NOT move that flap even with the wire loom unplugged. This goes for most drive-by-wire throttle body vehicles, not just the MINI. I'm an active member in forums in which I have vehicles under my possession. I can't begin to name how many people while cleaning their throttle body had accidentally moved the flap and later plug everything back in to find that it doesn't work correctly anymore.

Understood! Thanks for the info. Since I don't think this has been done before, I'm going to buy the gaskets since they are cheap.
Can I use MAF cleaner on the body or should I get something else?

Also, is the Bentley manual the best or something better?

Thanks a bunch!

Check this link

newtis.info

After selecting your car, search throttle body and read through. It might shed more light regarding cleaning or dos and donts

i just get lucky when i did Walnut Media Blast my 08 Clubman S i cleaned the throttle body,
sprayed with cleaner and manually open and closed the flapper many times i didn’t seperate
remove it although i have gasket on hand, put it back together and runs fine, one thing i’ve noticed
tge flapper was slightly open due to carbon deposits on the edges. Cool!!

Most people replace them if they look all flat and smooshed so they dont get a leak.

You've already done all the work to remove your intake manifold. I just looked and found the intake manifold to throttle body gasket for $2.60, and the intake manifold to cylinder head gaskets (4) for $2.93 each. My question is: why wouldn't you replace them? Not being snarky - I just think you'd save yourself from going there again for awhile for just a few bucks.
