foot brake problem

Can someone tell me what may cause the foot brake pedal to have a delay in braking? once i depress the pedal there is a delay in the brakes to stop the car. however if i depress a 2nd time the brakes will immediately function. Can it be the master cylinder pump is faulty or the vacuum pump or the hoses? some help is much appreciated.

I had this exact same issue not too long ago with a different vehicle of mine. I had my brake booster replaced and bled the brakes 4 times. What it ultimately ended up being was pad knockback due to a faulty wheel bearing. What happens is that the bearing is so bad that it was allowing my pads to shift, but once I depressed the pedal a second time it acted normal as everything was back into place. As I kept driving, my pads would shift out of place again and then the first press on the pedal there was a delay again and then it would stiffen up and respond. There is much more detailed information about it via the racing community HERE if you want to read up on it. This may or may not be your issue, but it sounds exactly like my experience. How many miles are on your wheel bearings?

You don't have an extreme amount of miles on them. I was at about 150k miles on my original bearings. I was getting weird noises from them randomly as well. As I said, this may not be your issue, but it's not a bad thing to check out. Otherwise, make sure there isn't something that is getting in the way of your pad. Something like a clip on the brake pad. Have you had the brakes changed at all yet?

I have changed the brake pads early this year. The problem only surfaced after i repaired the oil sump leakage.

yes indeed it was the wheel bearing problem that caused the foot brake pedal not to function effectively. Thanks again.

Great to hear that you were able to determine it was pad knockback. Glad that I could be of assistance and you can now brake normally again.
