Hood Release Help

Hello everyone!

I hate to use my first post for something like this, but after literally hours of searching the internet and these forums, I can't find what I am sure is a very simple answer.

My hood latch snapped - and the lever went limp. I thought it was broken but I was able to use a few threads here to open the hood and sort out the latch. Simple problem, except I can't figure out how to reattach the cable to the release lever itself and there are NO pictures I can find of the back of the lever.

So, the question is this: how to I reattach the cable to the lever? I really don't want to start removing the lever itself just to get a look at the back of it.

Thanks in advance for any help.

PS: 2007 Mini Cooper base.

I need to know how to attach the cable to the lever. I sorted out the trim pieces, getting the hood open, the bracket for the outer sleeve etc. but the cable itself is still not attached to the lever.

I did see the picture of the latch on your site, but mine seems to be all plastic on the lever itself.

I appreciate the help!

The cable just hooks and the base snaps into the lever, the base or the lever is metal.

Thanks, it wasn't the bracket - I had that fine. It was the connection on the back of the actual black handle part. I eventually got it connected.

I also found out the problem - the hood was adjusted too "tight." there was no play at all when the hood was latched and that put force on the latches. Just a couple of turns on the adjusters and the release works fine.

Ok,

The hood pin or the adjustment stopper will need adjusted, they are rubber and screw up and down.

they are rubber and in the the bottom corner of that U shaped black brace that goes above the radiator with the fan / hand yellow stick.

Adjusting the two stoppers did the trick.... it took about 6 turns each to get it to where the latch works without any issues.

The hood was so tight before that there was NO play at all, even with someone pushing down on the hood. There was so much tension on the hood catches that there was no way they could release.

Sadly, my engine bay looks nothing like that one... my engine is not as clean and my engine looks way more "loved' than that one
