Help with Removing 2002 R50 Crank Pulley

So Im in the middle of my build and Im stuck on removing this crank pulley. From what I read there are suppose to be holes?? I looked at the Pelican Tech articles and ModMini's Youtube Video but mine is totally different.. Am I suppose to just use a 3 Jaw Puller for this one? Any help would be appreciated. Also not sure on the condition of this pulley as well..

Shown in our article is the later (2004-on) style harmonic balancer that is a direct replacement for all years of MINI Cooper S. For your R50, it should look like this. Yes, use a 3 jaw puller.

Some people have had to slightly modify the jaws by grinding them. Check out this thread here where the individual had to use a 3 jaw puller. Should have somewhat good information even though yours is a big different.

I bought a 2 Jaw puller with flat edges .. which i thought would work but THAT TOO Needs some modification to make it work and the pulley is starting to chip off the edges.. FRUSTRATION HAS SET IN!

Ouch , yep its has to be on it or use one similar to the Genuine MINI part puller which pulls / pushes from the center.

I know this is an old thread, but isn't the puller supposed to attach on the ears of the center hub (the ears that are right next to the spokes)? I'm going to pull my harmonic balancer tomorrow, and plan to use those ears, not the outside of the Pulley.

If you are going to pull from the rim, I'd recommend flipping the puller arms so that you can grip the inner edge of the rim rather than outside the belt channel. Just a thought (and I would even do that out near the spokes).

You are correct; attach the jaws of the puller inside the tabs alongside the spokes.

Perfect! Thanks for the highlighted picture. I found the puller that fits exactly:

Rented this at the local auto parts store.

Fits like a glove! Sorry, didn't think about pictures until after the fact.

Installation of harmonic balancer on base 2002 r50

Does anyone have a procedure to install the harmonic balancer on a base 2002 r50(non supercharged) with an automatic transmission? I was able to remove the old one off using the 3 clawed Chrysler puller. The problem now is finding a pulley that fits. Ordered two different ones and they were too big. They were way to big fitting over the camshaft end. Anybody have and suggestions? Need to get this thing up and running. Do I need to go OEM?

Take your stock crank bolt to the hardware store and get a bolt about an inch longer. Then use it with some washers to pull it onto the crank. then add more of the washers and pull it on further until on all the way.

Did you resolve this issue? I returned the first pulley I ordered because it slipped on with no effort and spun when I put the belt on.
