R50/53 I give up!
I give up!
This harmonic balancer is a POS! I retap on screw point then got it working. Next screw point strips out so I start tapping that one and the tap breaks off into the hole. So now I have two useless screw points for the pulley puller! I swear I'm about to loose it. So I guess my only option is to weld the puller to the balancer to remove it. Any other option out there guys?
Yes, use a three arm puller to remove it. If you haven't, check out our DIY here to help you with your project.

+1 on the outside with a three jaw and with the long claw. Also hit the center with some PB blaster and on the other side of the pulley between the cover and pulley.
Then have someone tap the side very lightly on the pulley with a hammer to break the friction. .

+1. I would do the 3 jaw next unless you want to drill 3 new fresh holes. May also want to use WD-40 or something similar in case it is stuck on from age, heat/rust. Hope you get this off, be sure to let us know if you get stuck again.

I have one that I've had forever that I got from a local auto parts store. As long as it's a good solid metal anyone should work fine.

Welcome,
Get a three claw that's heavy duty. Some local auto parts stores only have an off brand one. I have the Lisle one, and it works.

As I remember when I did mine (old style -- early R53 model) - when it finally came off there was a little bit of a build up in the tension before it finally came out and started to move.
I am sorry you are having such problems with this -- 3 jaw puller should be able to help -- heavy duty, not the one from autozone I guess... or just have a shop take this off for you....do not be tempted by heat as an idea...way too much near that thing to apply heat I would say.
Also, make sure you're only applying pressure going through the hole of the pulley. When I first tried this, I thought the rusted & polished surfaces (under the mounting bolt head) were where the pulley & crank separated. Nope. Ended up bending some bolts & tearing some washers. I had luck with a couple long headless studs placed down inside where the normal bolt threads are. Once I figured this out it actually came off pretty easily.

Guys thanks for all the advice. It looks like I have no choice but to weld the puller on. Funny I wanted to avoid all this but it's the only option. The balancer is on so tight and without bolt points I can't use conventional approach. The 3 sided claw just won't grab the pulley either.
To get the tap out, it looks like it's a 3 flute hobby type. Take a couple small picks, put them in the holes and put a screw driver between then and gently wiggle back and forth. It's a finesse thing. Gotta do it gently. Just wiggle it back and forth to get it to move the try back it out. Then back in. The back out. It's gonna take time. Once it's out far enough grab it with vice grips. Be very gentle.
Here is some advise that I have learned over the years working on front ends. After spraying the joint with some type of penetrating oil, position the pulley and tighten bolt till it has significant pressure. Take a good size hammer and smack the pulley bolt straight down. I taken apart the most stubborn joints in this manner.
Hey, Are you placing the pulley adj bolt on to the pulley itself or on an extension balancer pulley bolt. Go to the Pelican.com website to review the procedure. The pulley must be pushing against the extension bolt so that the balancer can be removed otherwise you are just pushing against balancer and doing nothing except bending the "sh*t" out of it.
