I Need My Horn To Sound When I Lock

This is the first car I've owned in many years that the horn will not sound when I hit the lock button on the key fob. Is there something I can do to make that happen? 2014 Clubman S. Only option on the car is Cold Weather Pkg. No aftermarket alarm.

There is nothing built-in to do that. You can install the factory alarm system. A retrofit kit is available.

Take a look at the manual, there is probably an option to turn that on and off..

I'm pretty sure the only way that works is with a factory alarm. If you want to confirm that your MINI has locked look at it while locking & see the park lights flash.

Will not do it even though the manual indicates there is an option for an audible sound when locking. The manual shows a "horn" and "lock" icon but when I scroll through the menu, I do not have the "horn" icon. No mention in the manual of the factory alarm to set this option.

Yep, you need to have the factory alarm equipped for the car to make an audible confirmation for locking/unlocking.

There is a beeper I've seen on the web (I'll see if I can find it...) that you can wire in that will accomplish this for around $40, but you have to have some comfort with splicing into the factory wiring.

Ah, found it: http://www.kptechnologies.com/produc...I&model=Cooper

I've heard of at least a couple MINI owners doing this.

Thanks for the link. I'm not sure it worth the trouble. I'll just have to get use to looking for the lights to flash.

You can just install one of the little piezo electric beepers from Radio Shack fairly easily for less than $5. Just connect to the wiring that operates the solenoid that lock/unlocks your gas cap. You can access the wiring on an R56 thru the little access panel on the left side of the boot that gives you access to the tail light bulbs.

I just watch for the little button on the door to go down, to be sure it locked.

With a '14 you're still under warranty. Are you near a mini dealer?

Dealer is close but why would this be a warranty issue?

You have a 4 year bumper to bumper warranty. If something is not working correctly, take it in. When you purchased the mini, you paid a premium for the warranty, why not use it?

It is not a warranty issue. There is no audible lock unless you have the factory alarm system.

Strongly not recommend to retrofit the factory alarm on a 14 (post 09/09 minis) as some idiots in MINI decided not to pre install the wiring for the alarm for dealer to install :( Cost a lot in labour and I dont trust aftermarket electronic stuff put into the car (Not sure will it work or even will it ruin ur car) Maybe thats me only
