Passenger side won't unlock

The passenger side door no longer unlocks with the toggle switch or remote. It does lock using these methods however. To unlock it I have to pull the interior door handle. I'm thinking it's the door lock actuator, but why then can I lock it with the toggle switch? Any ideas?

Now that the MINI is out of warrenty I'll be fixing this kind of stuff myself if possible. As far as i'm aware there's no shop manual available yet that might cover this kind of thing. Plus, I'm a total cheap *** so I'd rather not pay someone to fix the problem. Anyone else?

Try this...

I had a couple of weird electrical problems with lights AND doors, so....
Disconnect the battery (l left mine off over night).
Reconnect it and the CPU will reboot and reinitialize everything.
That cured my lighting and door problem.
At least it's worth a try.

Good luck,

Yfoiler

I have a 2002 MCS and am just starting to get some reluctance with the passenger side up thingy - unless i am really close to the car - I guess I'll get it into the dealer soon or try Viagra

I have a similar issue, mine will only unlock with thetoggle switch or remote on the drivers side. If I pull the handle nothing happens.

If the doors are locked you need to pull the handle twice to open the door.

The door does unlock normally when the handle is pulled but it won't unlock when the toggle switch is pressed or the car is unlocked with the remote. No luck with unhooking the battery either. I guess i'm stuck installing a new door lock regulator. Any ideas on removal/install info?

You got your MINI in May 03 and you have how many miles on it now?
Could a regular shop help you troubleshoot the problem then you order the part through Classic auto campus in Ohio at a discount?

Up to 50K it is a warranty issue, they should replace the lock actuator. This isn't all that unusual- mine left me with the gas cap unable to open as well as the other issues on this thread. Hope you are under 50K... ?

Absolutely a regular shop could do it. But as I'm at 55,xxx miles, and a huge cheap-***, i'd rather pull the door handle twice to unlock until the shop manual comes out and I can fix the problem myself. In fact i've already pre-ordered the manual. Will september ever get here?

Passenger door lock won't unlock

Has anyone found a DIY for removal/installation of a new actuator? My passenger side lock locks with the remote, but does not unlock with the remote of switch, only by pulling the handle from inside? Any help??
