oh oh...there's fluid at the bottom of transmission

I don't know what to think My husband, while changing my oil, found a small amount of clear-yellowish sticky fluid at the bottom of the transmission. He can't quite tell where it's coming from but told me it's not a bad leak but enough to collect and attract dirt. It never showed up on our garage floor. The problem is that my 02 is way past it's warranty. Please tell me this isn't serious

Your transmission actually has a seam along its diameter. This seam is basically metal to metal with a thin coating of sealant. Don't worry about it, just have Meesterr Hubby drag his lazy bones under the car say once a month and give it a good cleaning.........while he is at it he might give the bolts involved a tug with a wrench

Oh... I hope you're right. Meester mehanic hubby is now more worried than I am He thinks that I might've blown a drive shaft seal or something. He says that there's the same sticky stuff around the clutch area where the clutch cables? attach to the tranny. Is he parnoid or on to something?

Is this really tranny fluid, or is it grease?

He says that there's the same sticky stuff around the clutch area where the clutch cables? attach to the tranny.
Could it be some assenbly grease and not a leak at all?

Tranny fluid is REALLY thin, like water, so if this is sticky and greasy, I'm thinking it might not be fluid leaking from the tranny.

Clean it off and watch. If it doesn;t come back, it was probably supposed to be there!

Mystery solved. The sticky stuff is apparently coming from my over saturated Alta intake filter. The filter oil was pooling benieth and draining onto my tranny

BTWl, the PIAA lamps are used for daylightrunning as they're kinda of small for anything but fog lamps at night.

I just recently cleaned my Alta filter for the first time. I was a bit worried about oversaturating it (I don't think I did). I was wondering if oversaturation could cause the oily stuff on it to get sucked into the supercharger/engine? Would it do any damage if it got in there?

Two medium spray-coats of the UNI oil will do the trick. Msfitoy learned the hard way and used WAY too much - remember the oil is just supposed to coat the filter, not submerge it

It won't damage anything, just makes a mess as excess oil will drip into bottom of airfilter box and some may get coated into the intercooler. Will cost you some minor HP loss.
