Best anti-scoop melt product

Anybody know if the scoop melt is still an issue on the 2012? If so, what is the best product to prevent the scoop melt?

I have the M7 shield over the turbo, my scoop has holes in it, the car came with a fiberglass insulation blanket right over the turbo, and I put a metal shield from Mini Mania under the scoop and after 3 plus years I'm still starting to see a slight dip in the center of the scoop . Just a cheap *ss plastic scoop no matter how you look at it.

i read that mini redesigned the scoop to incorporate some metals so that it's much harder to melt.

I have the M7 heat shield, I prefer it to the NM design. The M7 has the aerogel that makes all the difference.

Will both of these (M7 and NM) fit a 2012? I know the M7 Tower Strut Brace does NOT fit a 2012. :(

I know that M7 makes a heat Shield for 2011+
Look here: http://www.m7tuning.com/parts/produc...roducts_id=172

Good luck with whatever you choose.

Why isn't MINI installing these under warranty? $200 is a of of money to spend to keep your car from melting when that shouldn't have been an issue in the first place.

MINI will replace the scoop under warranty. There is absolutely no way they will install an aftermarket part under warranty.

Still waiting to hear from anybody whether the newer scoops (from 3/2010 according to MotoringFile) resist melting.

I know they won't install an after market product under warranty. I wasn't clear in my posting. What I meant was that if that solution works, why don't they design one themselves and use that as the fix rather than keep replacing the scoops as they melt? I guess the answer is replacing the scoops over and over is cheaper than the real fix to the problem.

I'm sure Mini did their financial cost and return for this. They probably figure the amount of customers that would claim this fix makes more financial sense, as opposed to engineering the heat resistant scoop in the first place. There's on reason why they can't put a heat resistant hood scoop....they simply don't want to.

Just my $0.02....

Actually, MINI (or at least my dealer) will install an OEM heat shield (P/N 51 48 2 183 986) -- but you probably have to request it when you're getting a warped hood scoop replaced under warranty. At least that's what I ended up doing -- and got the OEM heat shield for no charge as part of the warranty work...

Now, exactly how well the OEM heat shield works is still out with the jury...

Based on my experience, the "melting" of the scoop has more to do with how it's mounted, rather than the actual heat it gets. My scoop warped three years ago and I got it replaced and the shop left the center of the scoop standing above the level of the metal hood behind it. I've taken this standard scoop through three hot summers and no warping. I don't think the scoop is actually melting, but it is getting hot enough that it warps to relieve the stresses placed on the scoop during installation when techs use too much force to get the scoop to conform to the hood.

Having said that, I have an M7 heat shield that I bought and never installed. I simply don't need it. For sale at half list price ($100).

So I guess the jury's still out on the melt issue? Should I ask my dealer to install the OEM on pickup?

I also worry about things NOT covered under warranty, such as the clear bra/stripes, etc... Has anyone heard or experienced any issues with these?

Orionizer, if they will do it for free, why not. After I installed the NM titanium heat shield, I drove to Atlanta to have Way install an FMIC. After a "hard" 4 hour drive at 90+ degrees (outside temp), my scoop was cool to the touch when I got there.

Wasn't this question answered already? = not needed on 2012.

Anyone with evidence to the contrary>
