Error code p0700

Alright, check engine light came on the other day.. for the first time today it acted kinda weird.. didnt want to shift.. turned it off and back on and it was fine, but check engine light still on..
feels like a pig down low, low on power..
had autozone test it and p0700 came up for transmission control module or transmission control malfunction.

Any idea what this could be? or what it most likely is?

I try to do most of the work myself, but this seems like its out of my hands.. And I really cant afford to bring it to the Mini/BMW dealership..
Is this something a normal bmw mechanic can fix that isnt at a dealership?

its a 05 mini s, auto/tiptronic.
Thanks!

Also I forgot to say the EP indicator is on.

Is the car okay to drive? Any guesses what it is?

k they said the alternator is fine and the battery's voltage was a little low.. they let the car run for a while and then reset the computer.. they are suggesting getting a new battery from mini.. i got this battery from autozone months ago..

does this sound correct?

Yep, we're all figments of your imagination.

Try this thread: http://freeautomechanic.blogspot.com...ode-p0700.html. Here's a complete list of the codes: http://www.mini2.com/forum/first-gen...ult-codes.html.
