re-surfacing a head

what is the maximum amount you can take off during resurfacing and use stock head gasket?

From what I have heard via these forums, there is not enough there to actually skim a MINI head. Most that I know that have warped a head buy a new one.

From the Bentley Manual:
Machine warped cylinder head.
Do not remove more than 0.3 mm (0.012 in.) of material.
If further machining is required, replace cylinder head.
The standard thickness of the cylinder head gasket is 0.65 mm.
A thicker one of 0.95 mm is available for machined heads.

Some people don't even trust a new head, they resurface them too, and also a new block.

Good point... I was only talking about thickness. I remember someone saying that the original head was too think to skim. It was read so take it with a grain of salt. The Bentley says you can take a little off so I assume this is more accurate.
