2007 MCS power loss after 3500rpm

let me first say that my MCS hasn't exactly been trouble free... I have had a dead engine because of the chain tensioner, and other minor problems.

Lately, I have been getting power loss from the car.. It drives fine under 3500ish rpm, but it seems like I "lost" my turbo after 3500rpm.

ie:
I do a full throttle from standstill, it would pull to 3500 and then lose power.. it would still climb to almost red line (haven't tried getting it to red line yet), but it would do it slowly like a non S.

my car has only 48000km on the odo... it was driving fine before this winter.

could this be a lose turbo hose? I want to try to fix it with my free mechanic(good friend) because I bring it in to the stealership. THanks

I have the exact same problem. I think it's the high pressure fuel pump. Do you have a check engine light?

I have a 2007 MCS with 27k and I have a sort-of similar thing that seems to be getting worse, and i DID have the high pressure fuel pump replaced already! ~2500 rpm under high load (accelerating up a big hill in 5th or 6th, for example), the car "stutters" for a second, as if the turbo wastegate just drops the boost all of a sudden and then it slowly accelerates onward. Note: Wastegate, aka dumpvalve - I'm a convert form Saab and don't know what Mini calls it). I instinctively get off the gas and back on it, and sometimes it happens again, sometimes not. 1st trip to the dealer got me a HP Fuel Pump. Not fixed, but thx for the warranty replacement of an expensive part. 2nd time in, as it was more and more noticeable, and they come back with "We think it's a clutch issue. We can pull the tranny to look at your clutch, but if it's a worn clutch rather than a warranty item we will have to bill you for this $2,000+ repair." OK, so now I get suspicious. They have NO idea what's up. As a mechanical engineer, I know what a slipping clutch is. The engine does not lose power. It revs up. And to boot, you'd smell clutch if you kept on the gas with it slipping. The worrisome part is that there is no code being generated, and 2 dealers have told me that they are shocked at the lack of fault code - MCS's are very sensitive, and any engine issue will throw a code. What do I do now? I'm worried about being that "pain in the butt" customer, but this is a real problem and I am still within my full warranty. Anyone who has seen this and had it remedied, please help!

Do you have the stock intake? On my 2007 MCS when I replaced the stock airbox with the JCW airbox the turbo used to drop the boost at around 3.5-4.0 rpm since MAF sensor detected too much air going through the airbox. There was no CEL but it did however threw an internal code showing too much air.

Mine did that yesterday (high load and lowish rpm, same as minister07). I am going to do a seafoam treatment today since it is also idling rough when cold. Hopefully that will solve the problem. I already have the new HPFP and a new intake manifold.
I have to stop reading the problems thread, it's like bad Karma for my MINI!

the seafoam was all I needed, accelerating smoothly now and the idle is very steady compared to before.

Thanks for asking - I bought it used with 19k, and am unaware of any modding at all done to the car. Dealer records indicate none, and it was a 40-something woman who owned it previously. It is doing this more and more frequently in even 4th and 5th now. It makes a mechanical sound like a set of keys slapping on the block, and "stutters." I want to make sure it's addressed before the warranty runs out!

MIN 18: I had no engine light at all. The dealership seems not to believe me that it could be an engine issue without a code being generated. I dunno but it feels like when a SAAB would dump boost and stutter. It comes right back into its power when I let up and floor it again but it freaks me out for sure.

it removes carbon deposits and engine gunk. There's a big thread about it in here somewhere including directions how to do it. If you are still under warranty, you may be able to convince the dealer to do it for you. Your problem sounds bad enough and carbon build up is a well known problem for direct injection engines. Anyway, it's only $15 a can and is easy enough to do it yourself. Of course your problem could be unrelated, but there's no harm trying it either way.
